ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

cel code 5 map sensor help

hi everyone. i am new to this forum and joined because i have little experience with repairs other than basics such as oil changes, rotating tires, etc. i am in a position where i will have to attempt to fix my car myself and have little more than a basic tool kit. (sorry if this a double post- computer is OLD)

    so here goes:
    * i own a 92 accord with auto transmission
    * just about everything in this car is original

my cel came on. got a code 5. 'd4' blinks as well when cel is on while driving (doesnt happen all the time), if that helps in any way. so when i checked my manual, it says it's the map sensor on my car or #21 hose. i checked the prices for a new map sensor, and i'm sure you know it's quite pricey.

    here's my issues:
i've kept this car for the most part off the road to be on the safe side, but when i have taken it on a test drive (no more than 1 mile from my place), the cel isnt always coming on. if it does come on, it does so when i am driving. it does not always run rough, sometimes it is fine. and when the cel comes on, then it starts to run a little rougher. when i have seen the cel on, i pull over to get the code reading and sure enough, the cel goes off and i cant get a reading- will keep trying if i put this thing back on the road (i got the reading the first time it came on). is this the map sensor? maybe a hose? a loose wire? (no idea what to look for so i am posting photos) is there any way i can figure this out myself what is causing this? the manual says to check the vacuum but i don't have access to the proper tools. is there anything i can do in my driveway with what i have? is there an inexpensive way i can check vacuum pressure?

i'm posting some photos of the inside of my control box and hoses, such as #21. hope that helps. please bear with me, never done this before.

    here's the hoses:

    here's the valves:

    here's my map sensor:

i should also add that when i had my emissions done a few months back i passed, but was high on no, if that would help diagnose the problem better.

also, one other question, is it best to go new or used with a map sensor?

either or.. you can luck up and find a good map sensor at the jy but then some would much rather dish out the $$ to get a brand new one. To each their own I guess. I hope this helps you out
