Hey guys a few nights ago i heard a metallic snap when i pulled forward slowly twice, and now I have a thumping when I drive. It thumps when i drive forward, turn right sometimes, and sometimes when I turn right it does not knock until my suspension compresses. It does not knock when I make left turns or when i decelerate. I replaced my right axle about a year and a half ago, but never replaced my left one. A buddy of mine said that it may also be a snapped differential, does any one have any advice for me.

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Has my CV gone bad

Jack up the frontend of your car and support it on jackstand and check your axles.
If the axles are in good shape then most likely your motor mounts are bad... check the motor mount before buying new one...or repair them if you chose to.Checkout my MR: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=165984

If the differential was damaged, the car probably would not move.
The axle may not be seated properly. Have you pulled either one out recently?
A bad CV joint tends to click when you turn. Thumping MAY be a bad joint, but I'd think clicking would come first.
Check all suspension components (bushings, ball joints, etc...) and wheel bearings. Those things could cause thumping as well... and they could be very dangerous if they fail.
If you're unsure about the axles... replace them. $75 for a remanufactured axle from most autoparts stores is worth your peace of mind. Hell, if it IS an axle, and it breaks while driving, then you'd need a tow... which would likely cost $75 or more!

Get under -- or even jack up one side and take the wheel off to peek behind the rotor/hub.
You will see if there is grease everywhere or not. Then you'll know for sure that a new axle should be planned for. A common sign would be the outer CV clicking when turning, but you shouldn't wait for one.
I've seen an inner joint (driver's mid-shaft) completely done. The ride was very rough. As soon as we got the axle nut off, the shaft fall apart and separated at the inner joint. It almost dropped right on my face, laying down. To be fair... the driver put off the axle for over a year, leading to "WE F^&% TOLD YOU!"Last edited by Type_Mo™; 04-07-2011, 12:18 PM.

I took the axles out about a month and a half ago when drummersteve and i replaced my clutch but everything was good when we assembled it. About a year ago the joint did pop open so i repacked it and re clamped it with a metal tie. i believe the axle is original when i re built it there was some nasty gooopy grease that just plopped out.
Ghost edit: Ill take a look at my suspension this weekend, 3 out of 4 motor mounts have been DIY solidified with polyurethane.
Ghost edit: about 2 years ago I had a similar issue but it was a slower and harder thump that ended up being a bad CV joint on my passenger sideLast edited by pedalpusher90; 04-08-2011, 01:29 PM.Originally posted by GummiegorillaDamn CBs are like a Rubix Cube sometimes !!!!
