ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    coil over kits

i just purchase my CB7 2weeks ago, i'm looking to upgrade my suspension so i can get better handling and ride feel out of it. i would love to spend 2-3 thousand on it but i don't have that much to spend. i'd like to keep cost under $1,000. i plan on installing them myself so i could put more money towards the kit. what would be the best bang for the buck?

about to get my hands dirty!

With $1000, your options are pretty wide open.
I'd personally suggest F2 Type-IIs. They're fully adjustable, and many people have good thigns to say about them.

If you don't mind not having one piece, Koni Yellow shocks and Ground Control coilover sleeves is also a very good setup.

Make sure you get a camber kit and replace your bushings while you're in there. Seems they'll be within your budget as well.

Look into upgrading your bushings if you have money left over, they make a good difference.

Funtion and Form Autolife Type 1 or Type 2.

If you're telling someone to get a part that they've never heard of, PLEASE don't abbreviate the name... that doesn't help at all.

Tein Basic is also a very good choice if you don't need serious handling, and want to retain as much comfort as possible.

Do your research. Get quality, not just what's cheap (you can get quality in your price range.) Research spring rates and damping rates, and make sure you get what suits your needs. You don't need race-spec parts for a car that will never be raced. Too many people get a super-stiff suspension because it's "racey", and they just end up with a car that's no fun to drive.

Be sure to take other things into consideration as well... suspension bushings, ball joints, axles, tires, camber kit (don't cheap out here either... Ingalls or SPC are the only ones I'd suggest... cheapies are very dangerous!) You'll also need an alignment.

I keep forgetting what the difference is between the Type 1 and the Type 2... I recall the Type 2 being the one that stickydiljoe helped develop specifically for the CB platform. Does that just have greater adjustability?

I'm not a fan of full coilovers myself... I have no use for them, and I'd prefer to leave the adjustments to the designers. I love my H&R springs and Koni shocks!

okay so if the front coilovers have camber control on it, is there a need to a separate camber kit?

Type I = Only height adjustable.
Type II = Height and dampening ajustable.

They don't. You need a camber kit.

so is it better to do a full coilover setup or the 2 piece springs and struts setup? i want the best setup and if i don't have to spend a lot and i can save money that's even better.

There's different "best setups" depending on what you're planing on doing with the car / suspension.

So, what are your wants and needs for the suspension?

What kind of driving do you do, with this question you will get mixed reviews, I had a spring and shock combo and I absolutely loved it, I had Tokiko Illumina adjustable struts and H&R race springs, I liked the comfort of the ride and pretty good handling aswell. In the end your decision should be made based on your type of driving and comfort you want.

i like to speed, i like to take corners when i can but on the flip side i live in Los Angeles and there's a lot of fucked up streets. i want to be able to hug the corner at a nice speed and not feel every bump and rock in the street.
