Rear disc breaks/5 lug conversion pros/cons?

to get to the point. i have drums, i want discs in the rear.

I've got a 90 coupe. and have been reading up on the 5lug conversion. but i got some questions, errr, obviously.

is it possible to convert my drums to accord disc breaks using junk yard parts? (i know tas offers a conversion kit a touch on the pricey side)

obviously the parts for the 5lug are used on heavier cars therefore on the cb it would provide superior stopping power.

but i want to just get my car on the road buy some new suspension and rims. therein the problem lies. i dont want to buy rims and then find out that the 5lug conversion was significantly superior.

FYI my goal is to install a h22 turbo, and use the car as a DD, so i want to get an idea of the setup before i start throwing money at this thing.

    all suggestions/comments/insults are greatly appreciated.

yes is it possible using junkyard parts..certain parts such as pads for instance will need to be replaced with new ones..as with general maintenance. the junkyard would be the cheapest place to get the Accord 5-lug setup, Prelude as well..keep in mind to search this sites For Sale threads for members selling 5-lug conversions, prices around here are Accord-driver-friendly..also Honda-Tech.com's For Sale threads...The TAS Kit is pretty much as good as it gets, everything in excellent condition, you have to justify the price tho. Also remember if you're after performance, then you can always upgrade your rotors, calipers, etc. 5-lug just offers more of a variety of wheel fitment...

if your plans are to turbo it some day , then yes i say a rear disk set up you will need . anything that goes , needs to be stopped.as for now why not some EBC slotted rotors and EBC pads ? as for , more wheel options with a 5 lug ,

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

Well you remind me of myself. I was 4 luggin with drums on my h22 cb back in 2005 then wanted to go rear disc, 5 lug, and turbo. I did all 3!

Junkyard parts are not bad at all.

Yes its a 50/50 chance of might having to replace most parts if there worn.

To go rear disc you need the e brake lines, calipers, full trailing arms with spindle, nuts and bolts.

You would need to order pads, 5 lug rotors (integra or accord v6), prelude 5 lug hubs/bearings, and bb6 spindle nut since it has a attached washer.

        That's all for the rear.

For the front either go odyssey, accord, or prelude 5 lug.

Don't be discouraged either. I did my rear disc on my LX cb with 5 lug. Never went 4 lug rear disc since it was just a waste of time and energy.

As I said there might be a few parts from the junkyard that would need to be replaced other then pads and rotors. Calipers might be seized cables might be worn so just beware.

why not just 4 lug in the back? or get the spindles and everything at the junkyard then order drilled and slotted rotors all around then u can keep your rims and not have to do a full conversion all around and be a lil better than stock 5 lug rotors? thats wat id do anyways as a matter of fact i may lol

          in the begining...

Ita a matter of preference I believe, I swapped my drums to discs with 4 lug and it was easy but now I regret not doing the 5 lug swap just because it's hard to get nice rims in 4x114. But my 4 lug swap cost me $55 from the junk yard and that was all of it including the rear brace and swaybar. But I did upgrade to Brembo slotted rotors and EBC green brake pads all around.

Thanks guys for all the great responses. it certainly has given me perspective. i think i will have to opt for the 5 lug option. JUNKYARD HO!

also i was reading cant remember where but its better (for some reason which i also happen to not remember) to go with odyssey parts rather than lude parts. any comments/ideas why or why not?

im in the process of doing this myself.. i just ordered the front spindles off of ebay..100 a piece but complete with caliper caliper bracket and rotor...if rotor can be turned ill do that if not just get some from work.. the rear im keeping it drums since im on a budget and dont plan on goin fast any time soon... is there any issues with the cb7 axle splines lining up with the splines on the bearing from the new spindles? im using the accord v6 knuckles

5 lug looks cool and all but its kinda redundant. Only real advantage I see is ROH, but even then front CL hubs are way cheaper than a 5 Lug conversion.

You still have to get all the parts for a rear disc swap. You need new wheels.

I dont know how often you guys rip thru rotors, but I've changed my fronts once in 100k miles. HOR works for me.

i would like to dissagree sir

last week went to a good JY and found a 02 V6 ACCORD, that i pulled the front knuckles and the back hubs with disc got everything with caliper and disc for $200 customer payed $300 for the swap, and since he's got an s2000 he put the ap1 wheels in it

$200 dollars for NEWER hubs, better balljoints and bigger brakes, forget the 4lug

i used the prelude rear hubs along with CR-V drums

for the front i used 2002 Acura TL front knuckle/spindle complete

                        $150 for the front setup

$150 for the rear all new pieces
