ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    lets talk antifreeze

I know the Green is what goes into almost every radiator that honda makes..

I have had nothing but problems everytime I replace my antifreeze with the conventional green.

My dad got a couple of gallons of the yellow antifreeze..is it ok for me to run this in my cb after i drain it and flush the system? or should I just keep putting green in..

reason im asking is because many cars run yellow and I believe the boiling/freezing point differs on them..also prevents against corrosion better. Ive had nothing but green in my system and ive had to flush it once a year because theres always corrosion in it..the mixture has been perfect because i always buy the pre made 50/50 ones..

    so let me know.

As long as it is not Dexcool(gm replacement) i cant see a problem. But to be dead honest i would use the factory HONDA antifreeze. Its proven to be better.

I have it in my cobra for the heat exchanger and i have seen a differnce in Intake temps on hot days.(aeroforce gauge)

Its not the gm dexcool one.. And i was reading on different antifreeze websites and they say theirs is the best.. And they all put up the same stats.. About -34*f and the all have the same boiling points.. But ive always seen high end cars come with yellow, pink and blue.. No really good cars come with green..lol. so im gona run it and see if i see differences in temps and things like corrosion too..if its the same then il just switxh back an hope the problems stop :/

Stick with the green. Your car was made when the other colors and types didn't exist. I've seen entire cooling systems become filled with gel because the wrong type of antifreezes were mixed and some coolants are actually damaging to the wrong systems.

Stop buying premixed, you're paying for half a gallon of water in every bottle. Compare the price of two gallons of premix to one gallon of straight antifreeze. How much extra are you paying for the water itself?

I get them at work..autozone..so getting the premade is cheaper for me..plus i get them when theyre on sale so ehh..also, the different colors as im reading is just a dye in the antifreeze..i read it on different companies antifreeze

In my experience, ive used Honda OEM and 50/50 premixed.

Never had an issue with either.

Whatever is cheaper, id go with.

I run 50/50 now in the 02 Accord.

I only use OEM Honda fluid for the tranny and motor oil.

for motor oil I run castrol gtx and a k&n filter..i feel it cleans way better..my oil last approximately 4500 miles..and i drive 80 miles a day..

as for trans fluid honda atf only..lol..

back to antifreeze..does anyone know if the antifreeze's only difference is only some dye?

i dont usually trust wiki for these things..but I cant find anything proving it wrong..

Wiki is very often correct... people doubt it, but honestly, it's more likely to be updated by someone that knows what they're talking about than someone that doesn't. If you don't know about something, you're not going to go putting information on wikipedia for no reason. When it IS wrong, someone that knows better usually changes it pretty quickly. I actually tested it once. I purposefully edited the CB7 information to be false, with the plan to change it back in 2 days if nobody else caught it. It was fixed in a matter of hours!

Anyway, mixing coolants can be almost as bad as mixing brake fluids... Anything Dexcool will very likely damage your system... anything other than that might be alright, but I can't say for certain. If there is a difference, then it could be bad unless you somehow remove all traces of the old coolant from the system (which really means you'd have to replace the whole system!)

I agree with those that say Honda fluid. Use what the system was designed for. If that doesn't work properly, then the fluid isn't the problem. There's something else wrong that you need to address.

And to comment on Castrol. I personally have no problem with the brand, but I do recall reading something posted by Bisi regarding the engine he built for the Castrol Challenge where he said "I'll participate in their contest, but I would never use their oil." (paraphrased, of course.) Though, unless you're really pushing your car hard (either with hard driving, or serious performance mods), oil is oil. As long as you get quality, it will all work pretty much the same in engines like ours.

Green is oem and is glycol type .. Technically works in any car if completely flushed. Works great at preventing rust/ corrosion.. Only lasts 30k..

GM lifetime (lol) dexcool orange, Honda dark green, and pink euro is the same basic makeup... They are called "organic" last 150k

Just use the green and change it every 30k.. You will gain nothing from switching besides the longer life offset by cost/ effort.

Clearly you have another issue with your car if you are getting deposits/ rust

So my 09 Fit would have come with what, Honda's "organic" dark green stuff?
                    150k you say? Uh-oh... I'm 27k over that...

New Honda stuff is blue... 120k I think... I may be wrong but it went light green... Dark green early extended life type 2 (only for a couple years) then blue (new style type 2).

while mileage matters, it isnt as bad as age. age and heat cycles really make that shit gel up and cause issues like bad corrosion.

probably a platinum plug which is why you havent had an issue.

My dad's minivan and nissan both have factory spark plugs... the nissan has 180k miles and the minivan has like 120k. Neither are platinum plugs. No issues either.

i hava a feeling that my rust/corrosion issue is due to the fact that sometimes the 5050 mix has a little more water and therefor boils a lot faster than the homemade mix..another thing is that I got my engine from someone that used to track their car once a month or so..and they almost never used antifreeze..or they used inconsistent amounts..and never flushed the system..they just kept topping off..

i keep trying to look for differences in the antifreezes but no luck yet.

also reason i want to switch to yellow is because i have two gallons of full strength sitting here at home and its just gona get tossed if i dont use it up..
