ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    CEL Code 6

My boys accord is throwing a Code 6 from the ECU, referring to the coolant temperature sensor..its disconnected because the wiring was that way when he bought it. there are four wires coming out of the harness under the distributor that are not connected to anything. two green/white wires, a black, and a green/yellow wire..nothing is hooked up to the fan switch/thermostat on the front of the block..my question is would the Code 6 keep the car from starting? i also got a code 15 or 16, whichever was igition output, and thats been cleared up.

check the distributor if you're not getting a spark.

does the car crank up and not start?
or does it do nothing when you turn the key?

car will still start without an ect/cts input. probably wont start from that ignition output deal. mine was a dead ignitor and it will sometimes wont throw a code.

my ignitor was getting bad and it was throwing diff. codes. it got so bad the windshield wipers stopped working. change it if you have not or it maybe a bad dizzy. in the end i changed the whole dizzy.IMO. the code 6 will not mess with the start.

well i swapped out his dizzy for mines and spark was verified...its an internal coil..we poured a little gas down the intake n she still wouldnt start which makes it seem as if tho its an ignition problem..it does have an alarm installed from the previous owner from 7 years ago, n one of the labels on the wire connector for the alarm says ignition. So maybe it cud b a wiring issue?

ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor should be connected, it is critical to engine operation. That is the two wire connection under distributor that screws into the cylinder head coolant passage. The one wire connection is simply for the coolant temperature gauge in vehicle (not critical, but helpful information to have as driver).

I would also make sure the coolant thermoswitch at thermostat housing is connected, that is the one for radiator fan to keep engine cool. That is necessary as well.

I would not worry about the A/C fan thermoswitch on the water outlet (where top radiator hose connects into cylinder head) for now. You seem to have other issues that need attention to get engine running.

Make sure all distributor connections are made and the thermostat housing ground is connected.

the car has spark verified on all four plug wires...if the code 6 wont prevent a start, maybe its the coolant thermoswitch..not the ECT, the ECT is fine..distributor as well. i will look into the alarm wiring next.
