Hey guys so i followed some advice here and bought a distributor for my A6 from distributor king on ebay. So i installed the distributor making sure tp keep the alignment exactly as it was and i then connected the harnesses. voila i thought i was golden but when i crank i only get a vague crank sound. Like if it had no spark only it sounds like it shooting blank. This is the best way i can describe it. Hope someone can help

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

did it turn on with the old one? Is there a way to test the new one?
My thinking here is either something went wrong with the install or you got a ripped off with a shit part. So I suggest checking if the distributor is to blame. You can do this by either putting the onld one back on or testing the new one some how. (don't know how you would test that?)

ok so i checked and i do have spark. i learned the hard way lol got a nice shock. but still no start. I don't see why the relay would be the issue since it started fine before the distributor went. Also when i keep trying to crank the check engine light comes on with 6 blinks. This is the code for water temperature sensor. I don't know what it has to do with anything but the code didn't show up until after the distributor change. The fuel pump does engage. But i have not checked any further into fuel shortage.

Just my quick two cents. If you've already verified that the timing is correct after the instalation theres three things that you want to check after getting a cheap-o distributor. 1- remove the distributor cap and check the rotor for any signs of warpage, and 2- remove the ICM (Ignition Control Module) and take it to your local parts store and have them test it. 3- make sure your battery terminals are nice and tight. If either one of those are faulty that would cause your car to not start, or hesitate. Thats about all i have for ya. Hope this helps.
Peace,
Gummiegorilla.

FYI...
Due to you installing a different distributor than that originally on the engine, there is no way you have a true reference mark. You should borrow/buy an ignition timing gun to set it correctly.
However, you should atleast be able to get the vehicle started if you set the 12 o'clock hole on distributor base in the middle of the slot. If not, there is something else wrong.
I too agree with checking if the thermostat housing ground is connected. Perhaps you removed that when dealing with distributor installation?

When you got the new dizzy did you line the rotor up exactly like the rotor in the old dizzy? If the rotor is firing the wrong plugs it won't run.
The only distributor that should be in ur CB if it's an f22a should be td-31u or td-34u. I'm not 100% sure what should be on h22a. Verify that with someone else.
Also could someone show me where this ground on the thermostat housing is? Mine doesn't seem to have it so I grounded it to the Tranny instead. I'll take a pic and show you what I have. My friend told me that there should be a 10mm bolt on top of the housing. No such bolt on mine.Last edited by blu35p4rr0w; 02-04-2011, 08:56 PM.
