ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Power Steering Pump Bracket

I deleted almost all of my p/s today and I got to my bracket that holds the pump on and the bottom bolt holding the bracket to the head can not be reached because the alternator bracket is in the way. So how did you guy's get to it? Do I have to remove the alternator bracket to get to that bolt?

    Thanks.

Unfortunately, yes. Remove the alternator and bracket then the ps bracket and then put your alternator And bracket

Np. Did you run the lines to a resivour or leave them hang? You should use some sort of resivour, just to keep fluid in the rack.

I cut them and left it for today, I'm going to loop them or get a clutch reservoir so it's not big and in the way.

Have you had any problems with your VSS/speedometer?

Like, the speed sticking, or anything?.....

Yea, DONT loop them. See, when you turn right, fluid comes out of the rack. When you turn left, fluid goes in. That's why a resivour has to be vented, and looping them is as bad as leaving the pump on without the belt. Best option is a resivour big enough for a quart or so, next best is to leave them hang, though your rack will eventually wear out from lack of lubrication. I've had good luck w mine, as they have been hanging for 4 years or so, but I always keep a few spare racks just in case... Come to think of it, I always keep a few spare...everything. I think I am a parts hoarder...Help...

Also, gr1m... The p/s has NOTHING to do with the vss.... At all.

There is a PS VSS under the electrical VSS. It contains a gerotor pump that provides speed input to the power steering system (essentially by substracting flow from the pump - I think). Not sure if no fluid in the PS VSS could lead to its failure that might then stop spinning the electrical VSS.

Yes, sorry, the sensor that you are talking about is located in the power steering line, between the rack and the pump. It basically cuts flow at higher speed so that the car doesn't get squirley. P/s is basically only active under 10mph or so, at greater speeds, it's more power assisted than anything. It does, however help to eliminate feedback from the road. I have a ps deleted car, and the ol' lady had a car w the ps and even though I've been driving without it and am used to it at this point, parking lots make me think about putting it back on. Anyways, the vss that controlls the gauge is completely seperate, and the sensor that you're talking about gets input from the ecu, not output to the gauge. Different circut. P/s does not affect the speedo at all.

How accurate are you on this? Not judging your knowledge...just heard lots of people looping. And I'm in the process of looping prior to start up again, of course.

                      Kick knowledge to me. Thanks.

you want to keep the reservoir because the level of fluid changes as you steer.

I read on another thread (that I couldn't post on) that the power steering fluid is used as a sort of lubricant, but what you said a couple of posts up makes sense, the p/s is mainly for low-speed maneuvering, i.e. parking lots.... so if my problem happens at 40 mph (the needle sticks and doesn't move)..... wtf is going on??
