ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Rebuild F22 or Swap w/ H22 ??

My CB7 is just now shy of 200k and I've noticed signs that I may need to just go ahead and rebuild the engine soon : smokes at high rpm ( I'm guessing bad pistons or rings ) , valves also sound like they are ticking , burns 2 quarts of oil in about 1200 miles ( 300 if I'm on the highway ) and only gets about 200-225 miles on a tank of gas .
A rebuild kit for it is about $300 and the cheapest labor for that I've found is $800 . I've seen some pretty nice H22 engines with less than 60k on them for $800-$900 . Should I just go ahead and do a swap or rebuild the F22 ? Also if i swap the engines , will the F series transmission fit the H22 ??

Keep in mind that the H22 is twice the price. H22s may only run about 700-900. But you still need a new timing belt, water pump, and preferably oil pump as well as new oil seals; not too mention an ECU and wiring VTEC. That can be 250-350 in parts right there. Plus since you're taking the car to the shop to rebuild your F22, I imagine you would to swap an H22, they'll probably want another 500-800 for the labor. All in all you could be looking at almost 2 grand for a professionally done motor swap. But hey, you'll have peace of mind for zero issues. I've got mine.

If you still are looking for more power, try a USDM H23A or JDM F22B, not nearly as expensive plus great boost options. Or if you still crave VTEC there is the cheaper F20B.

Is the h manual trans higher or lower geared than the f trans?

^ most of the time weaker stock motors, their tranny has lower gears than the more powerful ones. so i'd say the f tranny is going to be the lower geared.

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

So you have absolutely nothing to go on, other than your assumptions?

The H22 has shorter gearing. The F22A has some of the longest gearing you can get in a transmission that will bolt up to any F or H engine.

I'm going to close this thread now, because it's full of nothing but misinformation.
OP, it is YOUR decision as to whether or not your rebuild or swap. Asking us to think for you is not a "technical" question. It just shows that you don't know a damn thing about your options, and you're too lazy to do your own research.
My advice... do your own research, and make the decision that's right for what YOU want.

Here's a hint... to do it right, NONE of it is going to be cheap.
