Stuck axle nut...

So, I'm trying to get the front suspension on my 1990 EX apart, I have these nice, shiny, new parts (all of 'em, lower ball joints, upper a-arms, inner/outer tie rod ends, bushings) waiting to go in.

The problem is, the passenger side axle nut flat refuses to budge! I've soaked it in PB Blaster, hit it with an impact driver, heated it with a torch, beat it with a sledge and I broke two breaker bars prying on it. It's stuck worse than any other nut I've had the displeasure to try to loosen.

Next time I go at it it will be with a grinder, unless someone has a better idea....I'm out of 'em.

an air impact? or a electric impact?

have u tried ratchet with long pipe to extend the lever?

It's electric, but it's rated for 270 ft/lbs and this is the first thing I've run into that I can't break loose.The driver's side was no problem.

Air would be really nice, but I'm on a budget!

Grinding it is no big deal, I still have a couple of new nuts that I never used on the Civic I had. It's just ticking me off that it won't come loose.

I hope the crank pulley bolt isn't like this, I have a new timing set to install...

8 feet of pipe on your breaker bar. 8 feet.

Even that didn't budge the last stuck one I had. I dremelled a slot in the nut and split it with a chisel.

It was an ugly day.

first. unstake the axle nut
second. torch it up until u see that axel nut glowing orange or red!
third. get a crowbar and shove between two lug bolts
fourth. get a long breaker bar with a 36mm socket and a long pipe
fifth. pray that this works
sixth. ask someone to hold down the crowbar and use your body weight to turn that axel nut

good luck. i know how frustrating this can be. btw u can go to like autozone or honda and get new axle nut, if you plan on doing this again in the near future.

That's how I broke my good Craftsman breaker bar....

Dremells are great, but I can cut through the nut in about 1/10th the time with an angle grinder. I was hoping to avoid it though.

bring it to a wheel works where they have to deal with that shit everyday. they blasted mine and torqued it down for me while i waited.

A breaker bar and a back pole should do it. PB blast it and then step on that thing. Be careful not to fall when you do it. It should break loose.

If you don't have a breaker bar buy one. It's a very good investment.

Both of my axle nuts were tighter than my crank pulley bolt. I impacted them each for about 10 minutes with my 525fl/lb gun before they came loose. That was with spraying PB Blaster and torching them. My best advice is to keep impacting and it should eventually come off.

When you put them back on, I like to put some grease or antiseize on the back side of the nut so its easier to remove the next time I need to.

I had a situation like that and took it to my friends shop where he used the biggest strongest impact that the shop he worked at had!!! but eventually we just had to cut a part of the nut off and some of the threads on the axle before it would go anywhere and we still had to impact that off a lil bit to break it loose!!!

All I had to do was unstake my axle nut and blast it with a craftmans impact gun.

I've always had the ability to use air, you mentioned you had civic nuts, those will not fit your accord axle so destroying the nut would be the last thing you'd want to do, plus you run the risk of damaging your threads on the axle.

if you dont plan on changing your axle, why not just take the whole knuckle off? change all the suspension and put it back on.
