Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

Fire Shoots Out of Down Pipe/ Cat Solid Red!?! Please Help

The check engine light only came on after the cat was removed, it is likely the code will be for reduced catalytic function (HO2S showing too much fuel, no cat function), but pull the code to be sure.
You should test the Ignition Coil, unless yours is internal and came with the distributor that you just bought.1997 Honda Accord EX-V6:

you must be thinking of P0420 which is catalyst inefficient or post o2 signal low (rich)
Before you replace anything, pull the code because it will give you a direction.

Not an expert but here are some thoughts
1) misfire in one cylinder could lead to dumping lots of unburnt fuel vapor into the exhaust manifold, where it can easily ignite and fry your cat and I would imagine your O2 sensor too.
2) check your ignition timing. Make sure it is within +/- 2 deg of 15 deg before tdc. I don't really think this is your problem though I thing your problem is (1), (3), or both (1) and (3)
3) If your o2 sensor is fried or fouled, and I can't imagine that temps like that wouldn't fry it, or if you melted the wire off of it or something extreme like that that I don't even know is possible, then the ECU is gonna constantly be dumping a very rich default mixture (intended to prevent detonation) and that could be your rich mixture problem right there.
