The local dirt track runs a hornet class every week with a pretty good turn out. 4 cylinder, FWD, NA, no vtec. They are not super hard on tech but the engine has to be original to the car. The two main choices I see are a CB7 with an F22a6 or a prelude with a H23 non vetec. I would prefer the accord because they are easier to find but am not sure about how well the 95 mm stroke will handle turning close to 7000 every night. I know the H crank is the same stroke but is it any different as far as strength goes? Ive raced small block chevy for 13 years now and know that the long stroke motors are usually limited in rpm by the bottom end unless you spend big money to upgrade the crank and rods.
I have had my 90 accord out on the track during the week and with 215/60/15s, second gear 6000 rpm at the corner entrance and figure under racing conditions(with a cage and harness) it would probably be closer to 6500 or 6700. Am I worrying over nothing or will one motor handle it better than the other? Thanks
Nick
