ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    brake problems

One of my brake pads started falling apart, so i replaced it with a new one. I compressed the piston down with the stock jack, and it worked fine. I got the new brake on and now it grinds really bad when you brake. I pulled the pads the other day and they look ok, and they seem to work fine at speed but at slow speeds (like the moment when you stop) they tend to grab, and they sometimes dont retract properly. I know that the rotors should be turned, and that is probably the cause of the grinding but what is the cause of the other problems? Should i get new slide bolts? I removed and regreased both bolts when i replaced the brakes., and thoroughly cleaned the brakes with brake cleaner. I was thinking it is possible that the caliper is bad, as the bleeder snapped off on that side. The other side is fine. Any ideas or advice are welcome.

A bad rotor will definitely make the grindin sounds still be there and make it try to grab at stop if they are really bad. It will eat the pads up on it before you know it. Make sure that you are not overtightening the caliper bolts. Snug them up with a ratchet(don't tighten as tight as you can get them), then use a 14mm wrench and a rubber mallet and hit it one good time and they are good to go. You can replace the blessed valve but it isn't too fun. Replacement calipers are not that expensive and would actually be an easier job to replace it then to fix that bleeder valve.

i just tightened them as tight as they would go by hand with a 3/8 ratchet. My slide bolts are 17mm though, i have akebono calipers.

They make a tool to get the bleeder out, all you have to do is drill a lil bit. If you don't drill it out you have to use the smaller size and you WILL twist it in to. Hope that helps some
