I got a 90 dx with the f22a1. Bought the car a couple of months ago for 700 with 125000k on it. When I bought it the exhaust was rotted off of it right behind the catalytic converter, and I still have yet to put my catback on. The problem now is it is constantly bogging down in every gear but it will still rev all the way out to fuel cutout but just really slowly. 5th gear is dead and won't pull at all and trying to get this car over sixty is a problem. I pulled the cap and wires off of it, changed plugs, wires and rotor button, and cleaned the connectors on the cap. There was like a rust looking dust all in the cap though. This failed to fix the problem so now I changed the fuel filter thinking that could be causing the problem but it didn't fix it. Bow I'm leaning towards the catalytic converter being stopped up, but I'm not for certain. Has anybody had this problem and know how to fix it? This is my daily driver and I run a paper route in it so I need to get this fixed asap.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

F22a1 constantly bogging down?

Check your spark plugs/wires for oil. Check your gaskets/replace them if you havent for a long time. Check your oil, and like deeve said, a clogged cat. Without sparks from the spark plugs, you will hear popping noises and backfire a bit. It doesnt hurt to replace fuel pumps/filter, clean egr and all that small stuff.
From all the possibilities, i'd go with a new O2 sensor first.

There is not a cel on at all. I did the jump test on it just to see if it would throw a code and it wouldn't. There no oil in the spark plugs and I just put brand new ngk iridium plugs and ngk 8.5 mm wires on it yesterday. It's firing just fine. No miss at all at any rpms. It revs out perfect at idle and idles just fine as well. Just when you put it under a load is when it starts this. I had another o2 sensor that u have already put in it as well. I'm gonna unbolt the cat in the morning and see what it does with it off of the car. Could the maf sensor have anything to do with this? And how do you clean the egr ports?

The procedure for cleaning the EGR ports can be found in the DIY section.
There's no MAF sensor. It's a MAP sensor. If it was bad, it would throw a code. The CEL bulb does work, correct? Like, it lights up when you turn on the car? Just making sure... it wouldnt be the first time someone swore up and down there was no CEL, and the reason was due to the bulb being burned out.
If the CEL is legitimately not going on, then the cat is the most likely culprit. Yank it and see what you get.
If you repalce it, don't waste your money on a "high flow" cat. The only worthwhile "high flow" models come from sms-products.com, but even those are a bit overkill if you don't need it. A regular quality stock replacement is just fine.

the cel light works, just the ecu isnt throwing any codes. im going to replace pull the cat off of it in the morning and see how it runs then. I was thinking about just having my catback extended out at the local muffler shop here and getting rid of the cat if this was the problem. My question now is if this is the problem and I remove the cat does this promote any potential damage to my engine. we dont have smog inspections or anything here in kentucky so I dont have to worry bout that.

deev i completely agree with you on the fuel pump subject. I would rather do an engine swap than change the fuel pump on these cars. Dropping the tank and not damaging any lines trying to fully drop the tank is a pain in the ass. Took me like 5 hours to swap the last fuel pump out on these cars.

Well I already swapped o2 sensors out on it. U2 sensors cause the cel to throw codes and mine didn't but I changed it out anyways. But thanks everyone for the help but I now have it fixed. I got pissed off at it running my paper route and beat the he'll out of the cat with a 3 pound sledge hammer an busted the guts out of it. One thing I can definitely say though is this is now the hardest pulling cb7 I have ever owned. It would seriously walk all over my old f22a4 and a6 with no problems. Once again thanks to everyone for the help!
