ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

can u use your oil that you just put in to replace a leak?

ok so i just recently put in new castrol high mileage oil and a new filter but the oil pan has a loose thread and is causing my bolt to become loose thread. so what me and my pops were going to do was drain the oil and just put this things called kevlar around the bolt and it should fit snug. But i was wondering is it bad to put back the new used oil. This is how new it is i drove one day 35 miles with it. which was today and tomorrow im fixing the problem because ihave a bad leak there? Or is the best thing is to put new oil again

    thoughts?
    thanks

as long as you keep it clean and don get shit in it put it back in if your on a budget.

but make sure you clean the container really well and make sure nothing gets in it.

Is the leak from the bolt hole? If so, that means the bolt was overtorqued, and the threads were damaged. You'll need to have it repaired, or replace the oil pan.

It is wise to use a new bolt and washer every time you do an oil change. At least replace the washer, if not the bolt.

If you didn't use a new aluminum washer, do so. I was able to swap one out without draining the oil by sticking the hose of a vacuum cleaner in the fill opening in the valve cover, then removing the drain bolt - the vacuum pulled enough air in through the drain hole that the oil couldn't drain out. Put a new washer on, installed the plug, shut off the vacuum.

On my CB9, someone put an oversize plug in before I bought it, so I've had to use aftermarket gasket/washers on the bolt to prevent leaks.

The honda filters come with new washers but i dont think you need to replace the bolt every time?

I know all about that damn oil drain bolt stripping and leaking! I was at the point of losing 2 quarts every 8 hours and finding out that the pan hole was stripped. Replacing the bolt with an oversize didn't do anything so what I did was use an oversize with gasket and silicone the crap out of it. I also used RP oil so I could run longer intervals as it's a PITA to change oil on MY CB.

The container you drain it into must be spotless, no dirt.

When you are draining the oil you must not allow any dirt to get into it...considering how filthy the underbelly of a 20 year old car is, I find this is unlikely. Will it ruin the engine, of course not...but if enough dirt did get in you could cause some minor damage...I just do not see the point of trying to re-use the oil.

I could understand if this was brand spanking new synthetic...but dino oil? That shit is cheap, use new oil.

the best way to fix the problem is simple, remove the oil pan clean with brake cleaner go to the hardware store buy a nut that has the same inside thread as the honda drain bolt take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it or braze the nut on the pan, and you will never have that problem again.

Or you could just replace the entire oil pan, drainplug and gasket. Just make sure you torque everything.
