ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

just replaced VSS, speedo works now, but why 9V?

my speedometer quit working a while back, started working intermittently then went out all together. well the cruise still worked so I figured it couldnt be the VSS(still not so sure it is, this might just be one of those times the speedo works) but I got one from u pick it and just installed it, on the test drive it hit 5 as i took off and dropped to 0, i stopped and tried again and at about 5 it dropped to zero, third time it worked and has worked so far. but I did put the DMM to the harness and I indeed have battery voltage where I should, but the wire that is suppose to receive these 5V pulses, is actually supplying the VSS with 9.5V as far as my DMM is concerned... what would cause that? a shorted wire somewhere in the harness? but that would either blow a fuse if it was shorting to a ground somewhere(or fry a TCU or something) or show 12V if it was shorting to a hot wire somewhere right???

or is there something running in that same harness that sends a constant 9+V?

so basically your 5v reference is actually 9.5?

fuses blow with amperage and not volts. Can you check another 5v ref just to make sure the ecu isnt supplying it? like a TPS or ect?

true about the fuse, but I was under the assumption that the vehicle speed sensor sent a 5v pulse to the harness, so if I measured at the harness with the VSS disconnected, I assumed I would have gotten 0v, because it wasnt the VSS giving 9.5v pulse. I was testing the harness plug with no VSS conected.

so I figured if a wire that should have no voltage was recieving it somewhere else, it would basically be like a short and pop a fuse/fry something because it would be able to just continuously draw current in a circuit that isnt supposed to have any significant amount of current flowing through it.

any ideas though on why the VSS circuit is 9.5V without a VSS there sending any pulses?

can you clarify again? so you're testing the harness side coming from the ecu or sensor side?

9.5v could be your averaging voltmeter. i want to help but i just dont understand what you are doing.

the plug itself, on the harness. I have no VSS plugged into it. and I show 12.4V which is my battery voltage between the ground and the 12V pins, then that third wire that is for the vss sending 5v pulses to the tcm, ecu, speedo, etc..., I leave the black probe on the ground and move the red probe to that wire, and my DMM reads 9.4V. again this is with NO VSS plugged in.
