Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Bad sounds from the car...

    Alright so on labor day weekend we went camping. The drive is from 100 miles or so to get to the destination. I didnt bother to check the oil. When we got there, my car started making a ticking noise. I kept goign because where we were going had endless roads curving right and left way up into the mountains. I caught up with everyone and turned off the car. I thought maybe it was a leave or a twig that got stuck. I checked the engine bay and nothing was there. We all started again towards our cabin, and as I gased a bit my oil light came on, I had little to no oil. My friend gave me less than a quart (all he had) to make it to walmart.

    My oil dipper has two holes. I filled it up to the first hole and a half. The car keeps ticking.

    Lifters?

    Bearings?

    Rods?


    Anyone had this problem before?

    Remember this in the beginner section . . .
    Vex drain the oil and check for any metal shavings, also change the filter.

      is this ticking noise corresponding with the engine rpm?

        be sure next time before traveling , check your fluids, air pressure and take along some oil and water . a pinch of prevention is worth a lb. of cure. it sounds to me like the lifters got bone dry . that sucks man .try lucas oil additive to free them up . good luck and i hope you dont have other mechanical problems.

          Yes, at lower rpms 2-3k it ticks harder, louder. At higher rpm, 4k+ it doesnt seem to tick that bad, but I never try to take it that far anywase for DD.

          Okay, I will do that. Thanks for the advice.

          I hate how stupid the dash lights work, whenever your oil light comes on, thats when your engine is already F^CKED.

              Lol.

              I dont know how long the car will run this way.

              But im almost certain the engine has already gone. I will probably save up for another f224 engine, and do a manual conversion since its more of a plug in play deal, as where the h22 will be more and costly.

                  NO METAL SHAVINGS. The ticking is coming from the top of the motor, not the bottom end. Is this worst or bad news?

                    It's just your valves you need to adjust them.

                      the valve springs in there, but yeah try some lucas or any engine additive to deal with knocking or clicking and if that doesnt work apparently something bad.

                        My car still pulls as it should. How do I re-adjust them? And how do I confirm that?

                        I dont get how adding more liquid would fix the problem? The only thing that goes into the oil hole is oil sir.

                          mine sounds like that too... obviously it is less noticeable at higher rpm when the oil pump increases pressure, but that's the sound i'm familiar with.

                            It sounds like your engine only needs to have the valve lash adjusted.

                            It is normally audible but should only be barely heard.

                            The noise shouldn't be heard clearly or louder than the operation of the motor (like on yours).

                            However watch out you don't over tighten it. Having it slightly loose like yours is far better than over zelously tightening it and leaning towards too tight (as this will burn your valves).

                            Its an adjustment that relies on feel and experience. Doing it wrong could cost you $$$ heaps of it.

                            My advise is unless your confident and don't mind facing the consequences of a first time error I suggest to leave it to a qualified/experienced mechanic.
