ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Piston help

    Ok i have looked for a bit but i am on a limited time schedual on the net at the moment. Please help me find what i need to know faster. I have a f22A6 which i had a few issues with this winter. I was an idiot and forgot to put antifreeze in after rebuilding the head only last summer and it froze over the winter and now have been having several different issues. I think that i have burnt up the rings from the short drives and losing hoses along the way. I purchased the car from somone that i believe to have done some work on the engine. What i do know is that it has a short air ram and well it looks and sounds good. it drove great before the winter freeze but still under hard acceleration it puffed out oil smoke telling me that the rings were going when i go the car. What i am worried about is that it is my daily driver and cant afford to buy pistons do the tear down only to find out i got the wrong pistions. what would be the easiest and fastest way to find out if i am still running stock pistons. My future plans for the car is to go with a turbo set up and a mega squirt computer system but that may be a bit before i get there. I would like to do the pistions now with the right pistons i will need for my build down the road. my goal is to hit 300whp. Thank you for your help in advance.

    I would recommend http://www.raceeng.com/ Thats where I got the pistons for my prelude. I am sure if you call them and tell them what motor you have they can help you with your piston purchase. I paid 400.00+ for mine.

    Here are the pistons for the f22 http://www.raceeng.com/c-3460-pistons-forged.aspx

      what color is the smoke.
      white=headgasket in most cases
      white with a hint of blue=rings or ur valve seals or in some cases lose spark plug and bad tube seals
      black= gas.

          I think he wants to do the pistons. If you go to the link I posted they have kits for rebuilds, rods, pistons, rings, crank. Just depends on how crazy he wants to get. I went with rods pistons and rings on my build and I am over 300whp.

                thanks for the help guys it is alot of help. Yes its white with a blue haze and pretty sure i need to deck the head and possibly the block but thats not going to happen right now. I do want performance and turbo set up but the whole deal is not going to happen right now due to funds and just thought i would start the build when things go bad or start to go bad with it replace it with what i want to have in the car down the road. I would like to be at 300whp with turbo and semi build set up. I am not sure if that is possible and keep my A/C. I still want all the comfortabilites and performance to boot. Thinking of making it the sleeper grandmaz grocery getter that you just cant catch...lol then again maybe just do it all up wheels custom paint effects. I know i would like to hitt it with some nice 18" wheels and a good quiality lowering spring set up, but all that is really cosmetic for now and really want to get a strong foundation in the motor first. With all the punishment i put the motor threw over the winter and spring due to lack of funds I really need to take care of my baby and get her somthing nice she deserves it. I have had her for a year now and all i have done is fix her the first time then patch her up here and there she needs some special attention and would like to do the pistons and rings. that being said what else should i do for now remember baby steps. can i do the pistons and rings by them selves. do the rods later or should i do pistons rods and rings all at once. I want a full built engine but at the same time i dont need to go completely crazy. I just know im going to have fun with this build. do you guys think i should just pick up a seperate block and build that one and let the one in the car get patched up as i build my seperate block or just do a little here and there on the block in my car. for now its my only driver I should have my truck in the next few weeks so thats the other push to get things going on my baby.

                  well if you have another vehicle I would just build the block you already have. Why waste the money on another motor. I would recommend doing rods, pistons and rings in one shot. Saves time and money of having to tear the motor down twice.

                    Thank you and as of right now i only have the one car but in a few weeks i will have my truck paid off and be able to drive it. As of right now my thoughts are that i may need to just get anohter engine and rebuild that one i have put this one threw some hard abuse due to lack of funds it has been heat treated a few times and not sure how healthy it truly is. thanks again for the advice. Now i just have to start saving up for a quality set of pistons and rings. I still do not know if the previous owners of the car had any block work done so I what is the easiest way to figure out if they had done any boreing and what size pistons to get. I would hate to order a set and then be stuck with them and have to use them as paperweights. Thank you again

                      As far as I know you will have to open the motor up and measure the cylinders.

                        Actually there is a member here who boosted (on a very good tune and VERY low mileage) up to 400hp on the stock rods...and stock pistons from what I understand.

                        Now there is more to that story than just that...so take from it what you will...but that is not recommended. I am not sure if anyone else on the forum has done that.

                        So...if you just HAD to I guess you could skimp by re-using your stock rods of course that is IF they are all in good shape.

                        I have no exp. boosting so copy and paste I have read that the ring lands on the pistons are the weak link. With a new bearings, a good tune, upgraded pistons, right sized turbo, you should be ok for a while

                          I have seen the 400whp set up and its a drag only with frequent rebuilds. I would never recommend use of stock rods with your 300whp goals. If you going to do it why not do it right?

                              I have bought forged rods from bisi, sitting in a box now. I will soon buy pistons. I am debating what comp. I want...I will eventually boost...so I want 9:1 comp but I may have to go with 10:1. I will also have a more aggressive cam but maybe just a stage 1 or delta 272. I want good N/A power first...save up...then boost.

                              Either way the forged rods and pistons new bearings...the whole bottom end...will be the same when I boost...should not need a rebuild. So build up the bottom. you will not be unhappy later
