ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Ah, that could very well be your problem. If you don't know what was done to that ECU, then it could be damn near anything!

My advice would be to find a stock P13 ECU, and see if the engine runs properly with that. Then have your P28 (if that's what it is.... it'll say what it is in the serial number... P28 should be a part of that number) properly tuned. If the ECU is modified, and you don't know what was done, then there could be any number of things bypassed or deactivated.

It depends... I've seen them sell for $150, and I've seen them sell for $15. www.car-part.com, ebay, craigslist, and the classified sections of various forums are your best sources. Or, if you get lucky, a local junkyard.

The good thing is, the P13 isn't all that desirable. They generally run rich, and they're not capable of being fully tuned (well, some high-end companies like JUN have done it... but most tuners use a P28 or P72). Because of that, you might find one fairly cheap if you look hard enough.

You could put the egr back on and "bang vtec" until you get your a p13 or get egr dissabled on ur p28

EDIT: If your p28 has a good tune then gettin egr dissabled would be the way to go, if it is youl lose hp going back to factory ecu

EDIT EDIT: do u know anything about the internals and injector size? is your motor factory that chipped p28 might be in there for a reason.

shweet i caint wait, so it wont hurt for me to leave the egr blocked for now will it? i mean until i get the p13 and try everything normal with that on. i think she needs a little rest from being beaten on anyways.

P28s do not support EGR. Nor do they support a knock sensor (without an additional board). A P13 will give you a code for EGR, but it is a soft code that will not affect the operation of VTEC.

If it's not running properly, don't beat on it, and drive it sparingly. You don't want to fix this problem only to learn you've broken something else!

EGR is mandatory in the US, therefore a P28 supports it. It will only be disabled if the tuner intentionally did so. Many do.

If the ECU were throwing a code, then it could be running in "limp mode", thus keeping VTEC from working... but it's not, so that's a moot point. Chances are, the EGR delete and nonfunctioning VTEC are unrelated.

My wife's '94 Del Sol with a bone stock D16Z6 (SOHC VTEC) running a P28 from the factory does not have an EGR valve, nor does the ECU support one. I believe that Civics and Integras do not have EGR.

Interesting... my research must be incorrect, then. I read that all cars 1990+ required EGR. Since you're in CA, I suppose they'd be the first to adopt emissions controls like that!

                        Solenoid. Silinoid isn't a word.

If the vtec solenoid was bad, it SHOULD throw a CEL. However, with this modified ECU, we really don't know what the deal is. It's much easier to remove the unknown variable and replace it with a constant (a known working stock P13) and troubleshoot from there.

I know... it just irks me. EVERYONE says silinoid! I just try to correct spelling when it matters... If you say his "silinoid" is bad, and he tries to search for an answer, he might not find one... because the correct answers most likely have the name of the part spelled correctly!

VTAC is back! it was definitely the egr, i unblocked it and hooked all my vaccum back up reset the ecu. about four days later when i guess the ecu relearned all that stuff it relearns, and im back in action boys.. i still dont get why my cel never came on with the egr blocked and the electrical connection unhooked. in my mind that would mean the ecu would be tuned with the egr delete, but then when i blocked it off vtec wouldnt engage its all very confusing to me. im just gonna save up for sure and go get it retuned, WITH EGR DELETED!!
