ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    transmission computer.

what would it hurt by not running one?
with the tcu i have first gear and third.
without it I have second and fourth.
I replaced the capacitor that was bad, it worked properly for about 4 days. now it doesn't work. took it apart, nothing else looks to be bad. It is really pissing me off.

Transmission will not shift without a TCU. Best bet is to find one in a junkyard or eBay and replace it. Could have bad components that are not visible.

It may not even be the TCU that's bad. Could be a shift solenoid.

        Are you checking your codes?

Your TCU should be throwing out a code if you're having tranny/TCU related issues.

When you replaced the faulty capacitor, did you replace it with one of equal µf and voltage? Did you solder it on adequately and in correct polarity? Did you check your TCU for other burnt out components? Usually when a TCU fries from a faulty capacitor, it causes sequential components to fry. Check closely for other faulty parts on the board.

Disconnect the connector to solenoid. When looking at the connector (that leads to solenoid) with lock mechanism facing up, left terminal is #1 and right terminal is #2.

          1. Measure resistance between #1 and ground. Do the same for #2. Should be 14-16 ohms. If not, replace it.
          2. If resistance is good, make a connection for each solenoid terminal to the positive battery terminal. You should hear a click each time a connection is made. If no click, check continuity between the A/T control unit A11 or A12 harness and body ground.

Checking the lock-up contol solenoid is the same process, but A/T control unit connectors are A24 and A25.

How to know if you are checking lock-up or shift solenoid? Shift solenoid has 3 pin connector, but only 2 pins. Lock-up has two pin connector.

Also, make sure you check your fuses under the hood!
