bad starter???? how to know

ok how do you know if your starter is good or bad?
i did a h22 swap but i think my problem is with the starter.
i just replaced the ground wire that goes from the battery to the block.
i tried taking a hot wire to the starter and it didnt do anything.
also i think theres a ground missing on the bracket on the transmission.
im not sure. theres two holes in the backet and the one hole is where the ground wire from the battery goes.
any suggestions???

take your starter off, bring it to Autozone, Advance, O'reilleys, whatever you have around, and have them test it. if it tests good, suspect a bad wire or connection.

Very often, a bad starter will simply whir, without turning the flywheel.

When you turn your key, what happens? Nothing at all?

If you don't have anything additional to add, don't waste my bandwidth by repeating what was said in the post above you. You won't get to 30 any faster by doing that... it'll just get you banned very quickly.

That Transmission ground is one of the main feeds for for the starter.
Does your starter click or make any sound at all?

Is there any recent work you have done to your car?
Is the battery charged?

I had to replace my starter motor recently.

This may not be a typical symptom, but before total failure of my starter motor, it turned over the engine slower than expected; it acted as if the battery was low on charge (but I had recently installed a new battery and it was fully charged). A few times, it wouldn't even turn over (just click) from a cold start. I would wait a while, and then it would start when I tried again.

I had previously replaced the ground wire lead from the battery.

Also, when the starter motor failed, the engine wouldn't even turn over. When the starter motor was engaged, the voltage from the battery just dropped substantially (lights dimmed almost completely). I expect that the starter motor had some windings shorted out.

After replacing the starter motor, the engine now cranks like when it was new.

It may be a symptom, because when i started my car the last 3 times, it turned over slowly and i was thinking my battery may be going dead.

The fourth time i tried starting the motor would not turn and i didnt hear anything from the starter at all not even a whirrrr.
