ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

How can I stiffen clutch

That may also be a generic description. With a cable clutch, a stiffer pressure plate will make a difference. But with a hydraulic system, if there's any difference in feel at all, it will be very minor. The hydrulics are doing all the work.

I've driven a few CBs with clutch upgrades. The only thing I've ever noticed was a change in the feel of engagement... but that may have been adjustment as much as it could have been the actual components.

I know I've only got 6 posts, but hydrolics are what return the pedal.

The springs in the pressure plate push against the slave cylinder piston which in turn, pushes fluid back into the master cylinder, which will increase pressure at your foot. The ratio is different with the bore and stroke of the master cylinder and slave cylinder in the same way that a cable changes the leverage and force applied using different pedal travel and length of the mechanism pulling the cable and being pulled by the cable and applies force to the pressure plate. (Foot moves 8 inches on the pedal, Cable moves less than one inch on the tranny, leverage is increased)

Yes the hydrolics do all the work, that is true, and it's also possible someone did their homework, and changed the bore/stroke of the master cylinder and changed the depression assist spring to make the aftermarket clutch easier to engage/disengage. But hydrolics work forward and backward in a clutch, there are no check valves, and without proper pressure in the clutch lines, the pedal will not even return from the floor!

You also have to take into consideration the number of "fingers" on the pressure plate, The more of them there are, the easier the clutch will be to operate, Old old old trucks used to have 6 giant fingers, and their clutches are murder to operate, but by upgrading the clutch to a modern piece with say 12-18 fingers, the clutch is made much more pleasant to operate.

There are a lot of variables to consider, and this is just my .02 worth, I would say the odds are, your cmc seal might've gone bad, and you're not moving the entire bore and stroke worth of brake fluid to the clutch, it might be bleeding back into the reservoir, or someone didn't bleed the lines properly. In both cases, you would lose no fluid, but would have a mushy pedal. Something to consider!

Has anyone bypassed the Clutch dampener? I have been wondering if anyone has done this and replaced that dampener with SS lines which might help the pedal feel. I am not saying to do it, but I am just curious of its effects once it has been removed?

I just bypassed mine with a SS line. I noticed no real difference.

That makes me a little sad

oh well, Did you just buy the piece of SS line build it yourself or did you buy the line AND connections as like a "kit"

I got the line with the proper fittings from rywire.com. Fit perfectly. Took me 5 minutes to install it.

I forget which I got, but it's easy enough to measure. There are only two kits.

This thread interests me as I am looking into answers for my problems with my 5sp.
Most of the time I can shift fine. I feel a bit of what I call Teeth, tying to grab the stick below. Then sometimes without warning....I can't shift at all while driving! Then after a bit...it's like butter. I see that line you are talking about and have no clue what it does. I don't work on major stuff...what should I tell shop to look for?
