ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    H22A misfire? timing? plz help

    any info would help!

    I have a 94 jdm h22a in a 91 accord lx

no cel came on and they do work

I was driving down the street low on gas but no gas light yet.(second time i ever ran it this low) and all of a sudden it starts sputtering felt like a vacuum leak or i was running out of gas. so i pull into a gas station fill it up and start it. same thing hard time idling and reving it makes this whirling noise it didnt have before and still misfiring or something. check the oil and its fine. so i get it to my shop ( less then 1 mile away) and i'm thinking ok maybe the distributor went bad and its causing it to misfire.

I check the cap and its shot(new cap and rotor 2000 miles ago) the rotor, the rod its connected to was pretty loose. so i put on a new cap and rotor just to see. it ran a little better but still misfiring and idling really rough. next buy a new distributor. just put it on today and idles like it used too maybe a tad worse still. once i rev it at all its misfiring randomly still and whirling noise gets louder very noticeable above 3k.

maybe some how it jumped a tooth on the timing belt or something? i just did a timing job and new auto tensioner 2000 miles ago also. maybe its a pully bearing went and theres slack on the timing belt making it run like half a tooth off?

i dont know but looking for any help!!

could it be vtec half engaging at the wrong time somehow? i dont know

Theres probably not a whole lot of people who could give you a definate "this is what is wrong". Assuming the ignition system is good I would move on to timing, you said you did a belt job 2k miles ago so you should be familiar with Hondas timing marks, so get your hands dirty and let us know what you find!

maybe the distributor bearing was about to seize and jumped a tooth. is it hard to set the timing? like is the distributor maxed out?

I'm taking it apart tomorrow and getting down to it by the end of the day hopefully. i thought some one could point something out before i "got my hands dirty" It lost a lot of power and if the timing was off a tooth i don't think it would feel the way it does. but hey i'm not ruling it out.

          Thanks tho!

Ha i honestly don't understand what you just said. the ignition timing (distributor) is exactly were it was. If it was "maxed out" i think the engine would be pinging and have a headache on my hands when it broke. and i dont think the dizzy could make it jump a tooth? I think a drive belt bearing could be going and making random slack in the timing belt.

          thanks!

the distributor can prevent the cam from turning if the bearing seized. you mentioned the rotor shaft was loose.

Problem solved for any one that may use this thread.
i spent the day fixing it

The spring, along with a rubber piece, to the Manuel tension-er for the balance shaft fell off into my timing belt and balance belt. ripped the hell outa both belts and caused it to jump 2 teeth. it also scratched my valve cover very nicely. luckily it didn't snap and i don't have have any bent valves or worse. wasted $265 on a dizzy but hey now i got a spare lol.
