EXhaust question

So I have what might be a dumd exhaust question. I want to put and exhaust on my cb and I have read the threads to use 2.25 piping and buy the muffler. Well I've heard people talk about getting a new resonator with the exhaust but I do not know what that is or what it does. Can somebody inlight me, and one more question somebody is selling me an Apexi muffler for $40 are those any good and does anybody know what they sound like? I've seen the full cat back from Apex but don't know about just the muffler. Thanks for the help

Unless we know what model the muffler is, we can't help. They have different models, some are loud, some aren't.

Did you bother to search on Google for "resonator"? I bet you'd find lots of information and pictures... Basically, a resonator is like a muffler, designed to go inline with the piping. Good exhaust systems come with them, but when you build your own, you need to supply them. Any muffler shop carries resonators of various lengths. The longer the resonator, the quieter the exhaust will be.

OR, you could just buy a full Apex'i World Sport 2 system, and not have to worry about building anything. After the cost of materials, labor, etc... building your own won't be much cheaper anyway.

Call around to custom exhaust shops, deals are out there. I got a full 2.5" header back system put on for $160 including a resonator, I did provide a muffler however. Its a well made system that doesn't even show surface rust over a year later, they painted the welds.

Like deevergote said it's hard to tell you with out knowing which muffler youre talking about.

Go on youtube. There are hundreds of videos of exhaust sounds and set ups from CB7 guys.

I advise my friends to use a really good exhaust shop here in L.A. They typically do custom exhaust for high end sport cars and luxury cars. You tell them basically what kinda of sound you are looking for. They bend the proper size pipe add a resonator. Then test fit a couple of the perfomance mufflers they have to get the right sound. Finally the prices are reasonable. A little lower than the price you would spend on really good full exhaust but this way you know what you are getting.

I realize you dont live in L.A. but I'm sure you can find a similar shop in Pheonix that is cool like the one here.

one recommendation for a cheap resonator is "Jones". I bought a 2.25 for my vw for 40 dollars shipped and it is 24" in length. i wanted the 30" one but they wanted 40+ shipping.

it definitely cuts down ont he rasp.

for my cb7, i went with 2.25 all the way to the stock axle back. muffler is so big that it doesnt need any resonators, it's quiet and i dont get harassed.

I do not know the model number the guy showed it to me he said it was just an Apexi universal 3" muffler. That's all the info I have on it.
