ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Emissions fail need help

So I just purcahsed an 92 dx with a F22 A6 in it, yeah I know they don't come with that engine that's why I purchased it. The guy that had it said that was the engine it had when he got it two years ago. So I took it to emissions an it failed by 1 point in
Oxides of Nitrogen 251 and the standard is 250
I don't know what that is so I need some help how can I get that 1 point down, what do I need to fix or clean EGR, Cat, 02 the engine is completly stock along with the exhaust and the car runs great no leaks no shakes. The guy that I got the car from said he had just changed the plugs and wires did timing belt and water pump.Any help or suggestion will be appreciated what to fix it this weekend so I can take it back on Monday. Thanks again

Any thing else I can do to just get below that 1 point? Maybe an additive or something easy I will clean my ports out but when I start working on my engine and rip it out

Is there a limit to the number of times you can inspect it? Try it on a different day. If it's really close, atmospheric conditions may sway it the other way.

I don't think there is a limit but for every two trys it's $30 so if I can save the money that would be great. I just don't know what I can do to get below that tham point. I'm going clean out the EGR on some of the other sensors and see if that helps.

higher octane, like street legal 100. you need to lower combustion chamber temperatures.

runs some seafoam or fuel injector cleaner, there might be some carbon buildup.

With cars that need a tad bit of help to pass on the NoX, I usually put in high octane gas like already suggested and retard the timing/distributor as much as I can. This usually gives me up to a 200ppm reduction for the NoX readings. Good luck!

I have come across an article the main causes of emissions failure is due to old oxygen sensor.

Perhaps changing this would give you the better burn reading required to pass.

^^ An o2 sensor definately can cause you to fail emmissions, as it tells the ecu what the afr is, and the ecu adjusts fuel delivery & timing according to the input provided by the o2.

My mechanic said that you can pour a bottle of rubbing alchohol into the gas tank (on a full tank), and it should drastically reduce emissions. (Think about it, adding 10% ethanol to gas reduces emissions by 50%, thats why most major city's have ethenol in their gas).

Also before going to be re-inspected, take the car on a highway drive, or drive the car hard for a good 30 minutes so your catalytic converter gets up to full temperature.

If all else fails, purchase a cheap cat, throw it on for emissions/inspections, should pass with flying colors, then afterwards swap your stock cat back on, and save the cheap cat for emissions/inspections.

If I use seafoam where does it go and how do I use it? Never used that stuff before
