ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Front suspension noise questions

Ok so I have only had the car for a month and have already spent more time working on it than driving it.
I am getting some front end popping/clunking sound. I have used the search and read the diys this is what i'm seeing and feeling.

After putting the car on stands and checking for play the results are no play up and down. Ball joints ok? On side to side I have quite a bit of play. I see Tie Rod ends are shot and the link bolt assembly for the stablizer bar is shot as well.
By the looks of my upper and lower ball joints do they need to be replaced? To me they look good just looking for a 3rd and 4th opinion. If I start the work I want to be able to do all the work at one time.

Here are a few pics to add to my description.

My Sway Bar end links [3rd pic] are the problem with my front end. Of course, both of them only have 2 rubbers left.

Yeah I'd replace those outter tie rods with new ones along with the sway bar end link bushings. If the ball joint boot hasn't ripped allowing the grease to come out, then it could still be OK.

      1. Jack the car up
      2. Grab the wheel/tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock positing and try to pull and push it in and out. If no play, then your ball joints are probably good.

If in doubt...replace with new parts.

The boots on the ball joints are good I don't see any splits or grease coming out.
I have looked for the tie rod ends and can only find the cheap $20 dollar store brands. I've seen different brands recommended here but can't seem to find any of these brands. I can't order online as I don't have a credit card.

Anyone in the SoCal area know where there is a good parts store that might have what I'm looking for?

If you have a NAPA in your area, they sell Altrom. Supposedly Altrom is a good quality brand and an OEM part supplier for some manufacturers. A couple of the MB and BMW guys use their parts and have noticed the original part number stamped on the part, but then scuffed over to make it look different.

Of course there is always Honda.....

I too have been hearing clunking sounds in the front end of my dads CB for a while now, like loose clunking noises.

The noise can be heard when i hit a series of little bumps but also when turning.

Im interested to know if yours disappear once you start replacing parts. Keep us posted please.
