Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Modifying the H22 trans

I'm thinking about best mods for the money for the f22a6. I think this motor feels pretty powerful but my god the gears are long on the trans. So intuitively, seems like for the ~$600 you spend on a trans thats gotta be best thing acceleration/ power wise right?

Well i really like the fuel mileage and how nice a freeway car the accord is, so I kinda dismissed the thought knowing the ratios are shorter in the H22. I've heard of people on VW modifying the final gear ratio to something wider. Is the same thing possible on the H22a? (like a final gear from a F series trans maybe?)

So, is it possible and what would a shop charge to make the swap?
Also, as a follow up question, the H22 trans needs slight modification to fit correct? is it notching the bell housing? anything else?

    thanks,

in my opinion of you want to get a h22 trans and change the fd why not just change the gearing of the tranny you have now and save the money you would spend on a new tranny. unless your tranny is shot

it's not as easy as a VW because the 5th gear on those are the last gear and you dont need to spilit the cases but you can use a 5th gear from a f22 onto a h22.

might as well add a lsd while you have the case open and get a better 5th gear synchro cause the h22's are notourious for grinding. ive experienced one first hand.

        All older Honda's scratch 3rd and 5th gear. It's a fact.

The final drive would widen all gears i belive. The reason i would want to use an h22 1-4 and F5 is cause the tranny is geared way to wide as it is. but id like to have a long 5th to keep it quiet and fuel economical. I never use 5th as a fun gear.

I see why it so popular on the VW's you can just get at it from the end cap..
So would it be really expensive then?

probably about the same price as an entire transmission will cost. 500 bucks and you can get a lsd and the fifth gear swapped. it's just time consuming man...for the differential you also have to set backlash and the fifth gear is on a shaft that needs to be taken out and disassembled on a bench.

so if you want the shop to drop the trans, it'll be another 300 dollars. do the work yourself, you have the h22 transmission as an extra so there wont be any down time. get yourself a good manual that has the blown up diagram and goto town. you'll need a press for the main shaft.

Yea, that doesn't really sound worth it. Your saying its not so bad with the LSD swap... Was there an h22 trans with LSD stock. It seems like alot of people have that it, in which case probably way cheaper to just buy with LSD. As for doing it myself thanks for the encouragement, breaking into a trans is definitely outside of something i want to tackle....

What does an h22 trans drive at rpm wise around 70 MPH? In searching for that someone in another thread said better gas mileage with H22a and trans, is that serious?

it gets decent gas mileage because the h22 spins at a higher redline so 4k at 70mph which i think is right isnt too bad on an engine that tachs to 7800 stock.

there are h22 lsd transmission which are a minimum of around 600 dollars. you'll still have a high rpm cruising speed and the mileage is unknown.
