ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

jdm h22 head gasket? and other rebuild stuff

I picked up a wrecked prelude that had a jdm h22a and m2a4 setup. Pulled it from the car the other day and found and interesting part inside the intake manifold and has me a little worried. The engine maxed out my 250psi compression tester, but since I found this part in the manifold i think i may pull the head to check things out.

    So........

I've gone through a lot of threads and see that most people suggest using the Honda head gasket. Does anyone know if the usdm and the jdm h22a's use the same head gasket? I was going to try to call the dealer and see what they were running.

I will also be doing the typical stuff, water pump, manual tensioner, balance shaft belt, valve cover gasket, spark plug tubes, and what ever else I can think of. From what I see, those gaskets and seals are ok to get else where, local auto parts store?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Robert

I believe that the 92-95 preludes were all closed decks so the head gasket shouldn't matter. To be sure look on the front of the head and look at the Yr. date stamp

Cool, I'll take a loot when I get to the shop tomorrow.

He actually gave me a second head that is suppose to be good that he had on another motor. Are the heads just identified by the year date or is there a list of model numbers some where to cross reference?

The heads are the same. The blocks are what differ. 97+ are open deck. That would be the only thing that would result in a different head gasket (possibly).

Thanks guys, going to give them a call here in a little bit to see how much it's going to hurt, lol.

See anything else I should do while it's out on the engine stand? I was thinking about adding the oil seals to the list. Any reason I should worry about the oil pump or go to a better one? I like to run the car very hard through the corners.

Oil seals would be good... rear main seal especially. If that goes, your engine is done.

Timing belt and water pump obviously. Oil pump wouldn't hurt. I've actually heard bad things about "upgraded" pumps, so I'd just go with a brand new OEM Honda pump. Do everything you can while the motor is out, because it's much more work to do when it's in the car! If you're paying to have stuff done, then you REALLY don't want to pay for the extra labor for in-car motor work!

Cool, I'm doing all the work, this won't be the fist time I've pulled and replaced a motor, lol. I'll look into the oil pump at honda too. I know I came across a link to a oem honda parts site, but it's at home. I'll have to check there also to see the differences in prices.

Should have a box show up today with all my seals and what not. Can't wait to get building on this and get my car back on the road. Been riding the motorcycle and getting lifts when it been pouring out.

Do you guys want another h22 build/swap thread started?
