ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Rocker Arm Seal Replacement

Well guy's I just bought a valve cover gasket and valve cover plug seals and rocker arm seals cause I am burning oil and I was wondering just how hard it is to replace the rocker arm assembly seals. I am kinda worried because it seems like a huge task and I don't want to fuck anything up. I read in a few threads that you don't need to take off the timing belt and that you won't need to adjust the valves after wards but I've also read different.

So the real question is, How hard is it to replace the rocker arm ass. seals?
    Thanks.

first off if ur burning oil its not cuz the tube seals...

and the rocker arm seals arent that much work,
just use a torque wrench when u tighten them down in sequence...

Seals? Rocker arm assembly clamps down to the head. There are no "seals" besides the mating on two machined pieces of metal. If you mean the tube seals, then its not too much of a pain. Service manuals say you dont have to move the timing belt and I have done it myself and the T belt wasnt an issue. Doesnt specify adjusting lash and it shouldnt change anything as long as you torque it back down properly.

I'll bump this up cause I still want to do this.
Main question is, Can I seriously fuck anything up? I know how to work on engines but I'm just nervous.

You'l be fine. Main thing to be sure of is... Do your best to NOT flex the rocker assembly. My horror story is when i was putting my 272 in, the rocker assembly twisted and when i went to bolt it back in it would NOT line up for shit. Torqued it down 3 times and the hole where you dizzy goes in was not mating smooth with the head/rocker assembly so the dizzy would not go in... But honestly, you dont touch your cam so no need for timing belt replacement, i reccomend having a buddy help you pop the old tube seals out of the rocker assembly and put new ones in, just so you can hold it in the air steady while he pulls them out. The hardest part is alighning the rocker assembly up with the head. Other than that, its simple... Just did my cam swap a week ago and put new tube seals in, adjusted valve lash, torqed to spec IN SEQUENCE (very importent so assembly dosnt tweak) installed new cam seal and installed valve cover and it took me 1.5 hours ALONE.

You got this man, its not hard, just take your time and for god sakes dont drop you rocker assembly. Because its one piece its tricky to move one part to line up, when your actions mis-alighn another part... Just jump on here with questions if you get stumped.

If you are not familiar and experienced atleast with other valvetrains, I would not attempt. You can screw up your engine. Atleast have someone experienced with you the first time.

I don't see anyone making note that you should relieve tension in rocker arm assembly before removing. It the proper way to reinstall it, so you know it sits properly. If you have it preloaded while trying to install it, you can cause damage. Due to this recommendation, you WILL have to readjust valve lash, as you should anyhow.

hondafan81 is a very knowledgeable guy.

here is a link to the thread where the procedure is listed.

it depends on your skills as a mechanic. if you have some idea what you are doing then you should be fine. if you are a total noob i would have someone there who is familiar with cars. remember to realign the rocker assembly correctly and DO NOT overtorque it on reassmbly.

i just did this work and kinda screwed it up. if you do it wrong you could potentially totally fuck your engine up.

if you decide to do this PM me and i will tell you some parts where i screwed up.
