ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    maintenance required

So, my accord lx's maintenance required (red) light is on I was wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this or why it is on??

    Thanks

It doesn't indicate a prolbem at all. It's a maintenance reminder that counts the mileage. If you stick your key into the slot next to it and push it in, it will turn the dial back to green.

It's just a reminder for oil change some people don't reset them after a oil change.

It's nothing but a mileage counter. Every 7500, it will turn red. I leave mine red. I like it better than green.

Correct, although I think it yellow @ 7,500 and red @ 10,000. This was "intend" by Honda to be an oil change reminder but trust me, do not wait for this to change your oil, even with synthetics. You will be asking for trouble... Use this indicator for air filter checks, brake and tire inspection, etc...

i change my oil every 2500 miles. No ifs, ands or buts. doing that is how my 78 Malibu has over 300,000 miles on the 3.8 V6 and still runs.

                300k on a Malibu? Wow!

I go 10k with synthetic in my Fit. Granted, that's about 5 weeks for me... Every 2500 would be damn near weekly!

I go untill my oil light comes on because its low on oil ( Which apperently is 3k miles when your copper seal on the drain plug fails )

I really dont care about chaning oil. Its better if you change it less often because thats less oil used and thus better for the enviroment.

Oil can be recycled. It's better for the environment to fix your car, if you're leaking or burning oil!

It's also not smart to let it get so low that the oil light comes on. That means your oil pressure is dangerously low. Even a quart low can be harmful to the engine.

Well i tightend up the drain plug bolt but it was a bit too late. Its not leaking oil right now but any hard turns will slosh the oil to one side of the pan and make the oil light blink on and off. I need to fix it i know but i dont have the money lol.

And yes oil can be recycled but thats still energy being used. If you just extend the times between oil changes you will save alot of oil and energy with little effect on your engine.

I just use synthetic oil, which doesn't need to be changed as much. I pay to have it done, since Shell can do it for me in 10 minutes, and it takes me an hour or more... buy the oil, take out my tools, jack up the car, drain the oil, replace the filter, clean everything up, fill the oil, dispose of the old oil and containers, clean up the street where some oil always spills, double check everything, put the car back on the ground, put my tools away.

However, the synthetic oil change at Shell costs me about $54... so doing that any more frequently than 10k (it WAS 7.5k when I was under warranty) gets pretty expensive! That'd be almost $200 a month in oil!

2 words...Fram Sure-Drain. Drains the oil right into a waiting container through a tube and screw-on fitting. Much less potential spillage.

Of course, there is still the filter to deal with....and everything else you say is true. I'd wait to return the old oil on the same trip I was buying new oil.

I assumed your original post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

However, something is up if you're getting the oil pressure warning light on any kind of a normal turn whatsoever. It's supposed to indicate pressure under like 2.5 psi, which is nothing. The amount of oil slosh on any kind of a normal turn shouldn't cause such a drop of oil pressure (if it's real); the oil pickup tubes for the oil pump (at least on my 92 DX) are JUST ABOVE, like 1/2 inch above, the bottom of the oil pan and fairly well centered, so most (if not any) turns won't affect it. I would suggest doing an oil pressure test to see if your pressure is good (borrow the gauge from Autozone or wherever) and maybe replacing the oil pressure sending switch so you don't get these (presumably) false low oil pressure warnings. You shouldn't be getting a flickering oil light.

It's a good idea to check the oil level once a week. I try to check mine on Fridays as a matter of course and before any major trips.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get one of those drain valves! I didn't know Fram made one... I've just seen no-name ones on Ebay.

It's still worth it to me to pay to get it done. 10 minutes and $20 extra, or an hour of my time. An hour of my time is worth more than $20. I do the oil on the CB7 myself, because I don't drive that nearly as much... well, at the moment, I don't drive it at all...
