ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Quick Lowering Struts???

Hey there, so the struts/springs on my car are all worn out and I'm looking for "Quick Lowering Struts" due to the fact I do not have a spring compressor. Have any of you ever heard of something like this? I haven't found any made by monroe, but if you have any ideas plzzzz let me know

I've never heard of "Quick Lowering Struts". The strut has nothing to do with the spring tension... so you will need a spring compressor to safely remove your stock springs regardless.

Monroe makes absolute crap. Don't waste your money.

If you want to lower your car, you shouldn't get anything less than Koni STR-Ts. They're affordable, and they'll handle just about anything you throw at them.

Oh, alright cool. I'll try to get the school shop to lend me a spring compressor I guess . Thanks for the answer.

Any major autoparts chain, such as Autozone or Advance Auto, should be able to loan them to you for free. It'll be $40 or so as a deposit, and when you return the tool, you get your money back. I assume you have similar places up there in Canada.

It sounds like he's talking about coilovers to me, since they are "quick lowering". You don't need a spring compressor to change ride height on a full coilover setup.

A spring compressor won't change the ride height anyway... And if he's looking at Monroe, he's looking in the wrong place! That's like shopping at a Kia dealership for a supercar!

Well you can just leave the spring compressor on the spring when you install it on the car, right? Wouldn't that make your car lower?

Oh, what I meant by the spring compressor was that I could get a quick strut in which already has the spring on the strut thus eliminates the need for a compressor, but I didn't exactly know monroe was a crappy company :S.

Slowly but surely getting informed , thanks guys.

lol I'm glad you caught the sarcasm

So you're saying Monroe makes a spring/shock assembly already put together?

Anyways, you should put these names in your vocabulary for performance shocks:

                  Crap:
stock, tokico HP, kyb gr2 ebay anything

                  Decent:
KYB agx, tokico illumina, most full coilover dampers (Function & form, tein, ksport, megan racing, etc)

                  Good:
                  Koni, Bilstein

                  Excellent:
Penske, Ohlins, AMR Engineering, Sachs, etc. (these would be a custom-fit, except AMR, they make them for the CB7)

I didn't know AMR had shelf applications for us... interesting. Koni is all I'd ever need for street driving, so until my CB7 becomes a track toy (the day will come) I'll never need anything better!

tokico illumina seem fairly cheap struts, so if they're decent I'll probably buy them . As far as springs how are Eibach springs?

Well, AMR custom makes them for each car, they aren't exactly shelf units. Making an Ohlins or Penske fit though would be much worse. You'd have to make your own mounts, figure out the valve and spring rate, body length, piston size you want, etc.

Eibach's are some of the best. If you want THE best, look at Hypercoils.

when it comes to budget builds do you really need the best or even good shocks, most people want the look of the drop, not the performace, or maybe not racing on a track. ive heard f&f kits are good, but you have them as decent? isnt that list opinioned? i could be wrong, but everyone you ask will give you a diff answer.... to what they think is the best..

Jesus christ. WHy does everyone say KYB GR2's are crap

Of the few applications besides my CB i have used them they work great.

They might say " OEM replacment " but they are much better then any OEM strut. They are nitrogen filled for one. They are also designed to be used on many different cars so they can handle a slight drop too. Plus they have a life time warranty.

If your looking for decent preformance, cheap price, a great warranty and a daily driver kyb gr2's are the way to go hands down.

Well, there are facts to what is good and what is not. Valve design, longevity, how the damping is matched to the springs, the linearity of the adjustment (if there is any), hysteresis in the damper, tolerances in the springs, etc.

When I listed such kits as decent, I was referring only to the damper quality itself, not the whole package. Those sets are all well-matched for the most part, so they will perform and ride well, don't get me wrong. There are just better shocks out there. For example, if Koni made a full coilover, it would completely own all the others in the decent category.
