Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    coolant leak

hey guys i have a 93 ex with a h23. a few days ago i was replacing lower ball joints. i noticed a few drops of coolant under the car. i go under the car and i see theres a drop of coolant on my oil filter.

im pretty sure it isnt the head cause the coolant wasnt contaminated. im just wondering if theres any hoses i should look at. the car dosent overheat.
    any suggestions?
    thanks

I'm not sure about the H23 but the F series has coolant hoses that go to the throttle body that could cause coolant to go down the backside of the engine it they were leaking. Crank the car so the cooling system is under pressure and run your hands around all of the hoses and check for leaks.

If you have an oil cooler on your car (under the oil filter assembly) then there is an o ring for oil control and an o ring for coolant control in there. If so that's in the perfect place to get coolant as you described. However I would suspect that your oil would get contaminated, or your coolant would be contaminated.

Check the coolant in the radiator and see if there's an oil slick on it. Of course, after the car has been parked overnight.

well i looked under the car today and i saw a drop of coolant on the oil filter. but is was dried out. i also saw a hose running to the top of the oil filter assy. i dont know if thats what you were talking about.

what would contaminated coolant or oil look like?

On the oil cooler assembly, its not possible for oil and coolant to mix
The water jacket is seperate from the oil main.
If the oil cooler gasket blows, engine oil goes everywhere.
However its is very possible and most likely that the oil cooler hoses are about to burst.
The hoses to the oil cooler are directly connected to the engine block/cylinder sleeve section.
So if one of these burst the engine block and radiator will drain in about 15 seconds.
Its also very unlikely anyone has changed them.

If its leaking on the back another posibility is the water pipe O-rings.
You know how O-rings fall apart...
I had a new one break when I installed it!

Good info. My own engine (F22A) doesn't seem to have an oil cooler as I just tried to get in there to replace the o ring last week and there's nothing to remove under the oil filter.

I agree with CB7Man that replacing the water pipe 0-rings sounds like a good idea. I believe there is one right above, or nearly above, the oil filter, as well as to the left of it on the water pipe coming out of the water pump on the front left of the engine.

funny thing... my whole coolant hose blew and my engine said it wasnt overheating make sure one of the hoses isnt leaking mine just had a crack on the back side which made it less noticeable.. your gonna wanna not drive it until you find the problem or you may not have an engine
