ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Accord developing cranking issue

I acquired this 1991 accord with 136K on the odo a couple months ago. I've put a couple thousand miles on the car. When I got the car, it had sat for over a year without being cranked.

That being said, the car has been running great and cranked fine even in sub freezing temperatures. Last night I drove to school but when I was cranking up to drive home, it wouldn't crank. It turned over fine but it just didn't fire up. About 20-25 seconds of turning the car over, with no sputtering at all, it finally cranked like nothing was wrong at all.

This morning the same thing occurred. About 20-25 seconds of turning over before it fired right up. My first inclination is to check the fuel pressure. Anything else I need to check while I'm troubleshooting?

Fuel pressure is unlikely to be the cause.

Replace your spark plugs, as well as your distributor cap and rotor. Make sure your battery cables are clean and tight (it's possible that a loose or dirty connection will give you enough power to crank, but not start).

The next things to look at would be the igniter and ignition coil. After that, the main relay (which doesn't sound like the problem here, but it's a common no-start problem as these cars age... commonly dies in the hot weather, as the solder points fail)

Why would the things you mentioned work perfectly when the car is running only? I am grateful for your speedy reply but could you give me some type of reasoning for the things you told me to check?

sounds like a main relay issue. 1 question, do you hear a click when you turn the key to the ACC position? If you don't then its definitely that main relay causing problems.

I'll check for the relay noise later today. Where is it located just in case it is bad? I'll replace it on the way home if I realize this is the issue.

it's located up under the dash above the fuse/relay box almost all the way up to the vent... it's mounted on a bracket, and when i replaced mine i just twisted it off the bracket, then let the new one hang there.... it'll be the biggest relay you see up there with an 8 or so pin connector on it... mine had a module in the way that i just took the two 10mm bolts out of and got it out of the way...

the main relay is very unlikely to be the problem, honestly.

The igniter and coil are common no-start or hard-start items, but the car often runs once it starts. I can barely see straight right now (it's been a long day) so I'm not able to really provide any detailed information... but from personal experience, that's what your problem sounds like.

Hit a junkyard. Those things are often very cheap at a junkyard. Pick up 2 of each. $20 tops, i'm sure... and you should find at least one combination that works. Otherwise, expect to spend about $60 each new.

The car has been cranking fine for the last several starts. I'll post back up when it starts acting screwy again..

                Thanks for the input, everyone..
