ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    19 mpg, why so low!?

So my accord is nearly stock, just got my exhaust to replace the pos stock rust pipe and muffler. I routinely do my oil changes (about every 4-5 months), did the spark plugs about a month ago, replaced my fuel filter about 8 months ago, pump 91 octane, replaced spark plug wires, cleaned air filter, replaced cap/rotor on the dizzy, replaced pcv valve, and had my injectors cleaned by the local carb shop(my car is not carb'd obviously tho) about 6months ago and do not have a lead foot (shifts before 3K). I get 19 mpg and recheck every time I fill my tank up, which is about every 2 weeks and it seems to stay right around there. I only get about 275 to 300 miles if i'm lucky. Any suggestions or thoughts as to why my mpg's are so low? Thanks in advanced

you had the injectors on the flowbench correct? Do you consider warm-ups as a factor for your low mpg rating? It is Winter. But, I just barely noticed you're in CA. Your gasoline might have 10% ethanol. If the weather is cold and you have the lousy mileage gasoline, you may only get 22 to 23 MPG, in your case, less. If you have highway mileage of 34, you are right on the mark. I guess you will have to wait for a long trip to find out anything. Which city traffic you are talking about can make a difference. Also, is this 19 mpg highway? city? poor fuel economy can also be due to a rich mixture. How much oil does the car consume in those 4-5 months?

      life is good.

no flowbench well i have had bad gas mileage for probably the past yr or so, the warm ups did effect the mileage but not too bad, the 19mpg is city driving mainly. I only have to add at the most half quart between oil changes.

would changing the o2 sensor help with mpg's or is there a way to test the o2 sensor?

Ding Ding. i would assume it's also the O2 sensor that went bad and is giving your car bad readings. replace with a Denso or NTK/NGK O2 sensor. Don't use Bosch.

Yes my name is Dang, Don't use in vain

Hmm it may be clogged, true. Just take a look at it. If there's carbon build up out the wazoo, then replace it. It sounds like that could be it.

When o2 sensors go bad they tend to send the ECU bad readings and goes into "loop mode" (something like that) and makes your engine run rich.

Replace that o2 sensor and everything should go back to normal (Gas milage wise)

Our cars get 22 -29(EX less) Mpg so 19 is right if you are one to hit the gass hard at times. I get 200 miles with a full tank in city driving and close to 400 highway

I complete agree with you, if it is auto, the numbers are correct, manual might get 1 to 2 mpg more, the best I have done in my 91 lx is 31mpg on the highway with a maximum speed of 65-67mph. All those people who claim they get 35-40mpg either cannot calculate correctly mpg or are constantly driving down the hill in neutral I just don't understand why people automatically assume that the accord is economical car, back in the days when it came out it probably was, but today definitely not.
