ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I have no idea why my car backfire everytime I'm switching gears & downshift it fun going into tunnels but I dont want to get pull over by a cop it just sound like shotgun firing near my muffler. Does that mean I'm running rich. Is that good? , Haven't gotten pull over yet. I have oil in my spark plugs will that may cause that?

Is your Check Engine Light on?

If you're running rich, the most likely cause is an improperly functioning oxygen sensor. Additionally, if your spark plugs are covered in oil, they also aren't functioning properly (and if you're burning oil, that would certainly cause damage to your catalytic converter and oxygen sensor)

The check engine lights up everytime the car backfire. It's gets rough idle at the stop light, its tries to stay on around 500rpm but sometimes it just dies. I think a tune-up will help?

The check engine light only comes on when it backfires? That can't be right...

Pull the error code from the ECU (read the stickies to see how) That will tell you at least one problem.

Replace the oxygen sensor with an NTK or Denso sensor (no Bosch)

Replace your spark plug tube seals and valve cover gasket.

                Replace your spark plugs.

If you have oil on your plugs, then you still need to change those tube seals. Though it wasn't the cause of the problem, it's still a problem itself!

Mine backfires somtimes on a rev-match downshift..

                      Vroom! Dun dun dun pop
Sounds brilliant though, but slowly it makes a black mark on my rear bumper lol

I'm using a 2.5" metallic core high flow cat in addition to my exhaust setup.. So after punching it out of a corner, reaching another and downshifting to stay in the torque range there's always some fuel that gets through unused..
I have new upper/lower seals, new Iridium plugs and quality leads.. Before anyone asks

I wouldn't say it's a problem.. It's just life, running a modified car on a stock ECU will always cause this

That is very true. More airflow means more fuel in stock ECU world.

A properly functioning o2 sensor and ignition components will minimize the issue though.
