ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    C/V Joint Replacement Help!

Do I need to take off the hub in order to take off the c/v joint, and if so, what is the diameter of the hub nut? Standard or Metric is fine, I'm asking b/c I do not have a socket that fits it, biggest I have is a 28mm and its way too small, this is the stock hub if that helps any...Thanks in advance.

what i did to get leverage was just use a 1/2 inch breaker bar and find a 5 ft. galvanized steel pipe at lowes for like 10 bucks and slip it over the breaker bar.

In NZ we call it a Hub nut too

OP he's right, you have to take the Nut off to get the CV out reguardless, You don't have to remove the entire hub though.
You can usually just take off the top balljoint, hub nut and lower shock fork to give enough room to slip the CV out.

i do it basically the same.
i like to take off the lower BJ nut and the tie rod nut. then the lower fork bolt.

I just did this last week. its easy. however it was frustrating getting the the INNER part back in. u gotta line up them groove right.

also. since i have rims, i had to put the spare wheel on and lower down the car on the grown to loosen the 36mm hub nut.

You can get that 36mm socket (for the front axle nut) at Autozone as a loaner and return it after the job is done.

helps if you have a small-tipped (1/4 inch or 3/8 inch) cold chisel to help when unstaking the axle nut. one trick is to slightly back off the axle nut, partially unbending the staked portion, then turn the nut back to its starting position. Now there will be more space to get the chisel in & under to finish unstaking the nut.
