Yeah, if you're going to rebuild it, then it won't matter as long as something isn't seriously damaged.
As for my HMO motor... the shop that put it in just slapped it in there. Didn't change ANYTHING. It's a 1994 H22, and I've put roughly 80,000 miles on it since I had it installed in 2003. The timing belt is still original. I've beaten on it, let it sit for months, even years, at a time... Even over-revved in a 3-2 shift.
