ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

You just have to look on the engine bottom, you will see what engine it is...

I thought the a6 and a1 header are the same?
Isn't it just the a4 header that's tubular and different?

I'm almost positive the a1 and a6 header are identical.

before you even start to pull back the carpets, kickpanels and removing the valvecovers. Check the engine code stamping on the engine itself. More than likely no one is going to be putting an A1 ecu in an A6 engine. If the code on the engine is not stamped f22a6 move on, dont waste anymore time looking at the car. If so, begin your search to check the ecu codes, and removing the upper front timing cover to see the stamp on the camshaft gear. Same code for the ecu should be on the cam gear.
if this is too elementary sorry, but good tips to speed up jy searches.

The F22A6 camshaft will be in an F22A6 engine. The block will be stamped F22A6. You can be pretty certain that the camshaft will be what you want.
The ECU will say PT6.
You will find these things in 1992-1993 EX models, or the 1991 and 1993 SE model.

If you're asking that question... yes, it is beyond your ability.
Honestly, your best bet is to a) buy a repair manual for your car, or download the manuals linked in the stickies at the top of this section... and read them. b) use Google and www.howstuffworks.com. I'm not suggesting these things as a cop-out... just that you'll get a much more thorough understanding from one of those sites about how an engine works, and what the parts do, than any posts on this forum will do for you.
A brief answer to your question is that the camshaft is a rod with bumps on it. It turns, and the bumps open the intake and exhaust valves of the engine. Change the size of the bumps, change the function of the camshaft.
