ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    i can't figure it out...

    okay so i have a 92 ex 5 speed. 182xxx completely stock.

okay so recently ive been having this problem with the car just shutting off while driving. and so far ive replaced the fuel filter. the fuel pump kicks on so ive check that. and ive replaced the spark plugs and wires...made sure that was done to spec. then i replaced the ignition coil the distributor cap and rotor...and ive redone the terminals on the battery...im clueless on what to do next...when it dies...it wont turn right back on...it will after like 20 minutes tho...but the battery light and oil light and check engine light come on...and i was gonna check for codes in the car with a scanner...but realized that i couldnt check it with that. and i havent gotten a real do it urself on the hotwire code thing u needa do the the computer under the dash on the passengers side...and i havent found anything similar to what i got with everyone else on the internet...so i was wondering if anyone can help me or lead me in the right direction...

the ignitor in the distributor could be going bad. sounds like when it coos off it will start working again. usally the main relay will kill the feul pump so if you hear the pump running it's probaly not the relay. next time it does it check to see if you getting fire to the plugs. just take a good screw driver & put in the plug wire & hold the shaft close to one of the valve cover bolts & see if it sparks. (don't touch the shaft of the screw driver during this process) if it don't have any spark i would put an ignitor in it.

Might also want to check your mass air flow sensor, it went bad in my old cb7 and it would drive awhile then just cut out and not turn over for awhile. It's worth checking.

Usually with ignitors, when they stop working, they won't come back on. I'd check it anyway, but thanks to our wonderful repair manual if everything checks out on the ingitor unit, then it could still be bad and they tell you to take it to a dealership. It's crappy.

as for checking the CEL's, its really easy. pop the passenger kick-panel off (you may need to take off the plastic rocker panel cover also). you should find a 2-wire connector with nothing connected to it. with the car completely off, put a jumper in the connector so it connects the two prongs to each other. i've used a small piece of string, sheet-metal, a paperclilp, etc. it doesnt really matter what you use, just as long as you can keep constant contact with both prongs. now turn your car to run but dont start it. your check engine light should be blinking. if it isnt, check your connections and wiggle them around until it does. your CEL should blink in a series of long and short blinks. a long blink stands for a 10 and a short blink stands for a one. for example it if flashes "long, long, short, short, short" it is code 23. multiple codes can be displayed, it just waits a second or 2 in between codes. if it is only one code, it will be repeated until the jumper is removed.

now as for what the code means, here is the list:
                1 O2A - Oxygen sensor #1
                2 O2B - Oxygen sensor #2
3 MAP - manifold absolute pressure sensor

its definitely the ignitor, my car was doing this back in Nov 06', along w/ not starting sometimes when it was hot. So I had the ignitor, main relay and a bunch of other ignition components changed such as wires, plugs and a valve adj. since at that point in time, 155k, it hadn't been changed (ICM and Main Relay)

Thats called the idle air control valve buddy >_< . When our cbs have an idle surge and they begin to idle funny that is the main cause of it.
