ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

They work in the fact that they take the exhaust from 4 cylinders and merge it into a single pipe, yes. But for a performance gain? Not really. Not the cheap ones. A cheap $100 header will get you about 3hp. MAYBE. To make power with a header, your only real option is the Bisimoto header, which makes 27whp on a stock F22A1... it'll make more with other mods.

And yes, the gaskets that come with the cheapies are often garbage. That increases the cost of the header, since you have to buy new gaskets. Additionally, if you've already installed it with the gaskets it came with, that means you have to take it apart and do it all over again. If you're paying someone to do it for you, then you're really screwed!

As I've said... if you need to replace a damaged or missing OEM manifold, then the header will work. Though I agree that a junkyard piece would be the most effective way to save money. You will not use a header for turbo... so spending $100 on a header is a waste of money.

        OEM manifold off of ebay?

I just hate to see you spend money on something that isn't going to help you in any way... and it'll just hurt your savings as you build your turbo setup.

Do you guys think that there is a difference in quality between a $70 ebay header and a $100 one?

i'm pretty sure there are only 2 different ebay versions, one is almost a copy of the a4 manifold and the other looks like it has longer primaries. as far as price goes, you might as well buy the cheapest one you can find, because it's (most likely) going to be just fine.

I've been running my ebay header and downpipe for about 3.5 years with no problems until recently the flex pipe shredded. I think that has more to do with my motor mounts being worn though. Waiting on another $70 one right now.

i liked my megan header. I felt a decent difference. definately noticed a mid range gain and this was the last addition (along with hf cat) after i already did catback and intake so the header might have been the choking point. If you compare the cast manifold with any ss tube header, its definately easy to see how one would flow much better than the other. are we still taking this manufacture dyno claim of 27 whp to heart?

Thanks for all of the input guys,(off the subject) i got my clutch and flywheel on today and connected the tranny. Is it normal to be able to turn the crank bolt to crank the engine over and the tranny not stop it when you put it in and out of gear. None of its in the car yet. I didnt know if there was enough pressure on the clutch disk yet to stop it from turning with the engine. It almost feels like the tranny is in neutral no matter where i put the shift arms.
