ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

CB7 smells like a backyard BBQ???

just as the title states, on the interstate above speeds 55 mph i can smell what smells exactly like a charcoal grill that has been lit, i have even had people ask why does your car smell like kingsford lol any ideas anyone? only clues i can say are, my car never did it till a month ago, i have a check engine light for some egr thing that only comes on on the interstate or after 20 mins of driving, its not the egr valve, its some component mounted on the driver's side fender? they said it can be adjusted and to replace it to make the cel code go away, it doesnt make the car run weird either. also my car is slammed and the exhaust work is super crappy (previous owners work) and i conked it real bad recently not sure if the same time smell came around tho but could it be a exhaust leak before the cat? it doesnt smell like it cuz my friend ran an open header on his 240sx and it just smelled like gas.

haha alright, the only way the cat internals can melt tho is if it was running rich. other than the egr cel i cant see why it would be running rich there is no black exhaust either.

Is there a brat caught up in the exhaust somewhere?

You might want to check out your charcoal canister the drain hose could be plugged up or your can could be full or not venting fumes corectly

well all tennessee jokes aside, haha. as far as i can tell the charcoal canister isnt hooked up and the egr doesnt have a vac hose just the electrical connector (this is all how it was when i got the car) when i did put a vac hose on the egr valve to intake mani it acted like it was gonna die on decceleration, had slightly less throttle, so i unhooked it again btw it has a 92-95 jdm h22a w/ p13

Make sure you don't have something stuck in your exhaust. I hit a dead chunk of... something... on the highway a few years back, smeared all over my header, flex pipe, and exhaust. I smelled burning bacon for a month.

Theres a charcoal canister in the fuel supply system.
                          Look into that.

So after you put a vacuum gauge on the egr and gave it vacuum it ran rough or stalled, cause that is good it means your egr valve is working right.

To hook up the canister if it tests good, first the round piece on top of the canister is the purge control valve (pcv) the pcv fitting is the top connection on the pcv pointed towards the engine that connects to the #3 hose coming out of the vacuum. control box. Second the purge port is
on the right of the pcv, this is the purge port it connects with a braided 1/4" hose to the top, center of the thottle body. Third is the tank fitting on the top, rear of the canister and returns to the gas tank. Finally is the purge air hose on the bottom of the tank that exits under the car.
