Hello, I was tryin to set my base idle by following HondaFan81's sticky post.
Well, sure enough when I disconnect the IACV, my car dies.
In the sticky it says if when you disconnect the Idle Air Control Valve the car dies, this tells you that you have a vacuum leak somewhere.
How to check for vacuum leaks?
I checked what hoses I could by disconnecting both ends, plugging one end, and sucking on the other. The 4 or 5 hoses I checked, were all good, and did not collapse. None of the hoses look damaged or worn/cracked at all.
I heard mention of carbeurator cleaner and spraying it around in the engine bay til I hear an increase in revs...I was wondering if there was another way, or if there was a common hose to go bad. Or even one that is very hard to see that most people overlook.
Need to set my base idle speed, So I can set my ignition timing, So hopefully I can get some response out of this bad boy! Right now its like a slug climbing a saltblock. Seems to do best at 3000-4000 RPM, below that it is very sputtery and above that it gains RPM very slow.
I would just post one line and wait for replies but people tend to think that the poster doesnt do enough research or hasnt tried hard enough to deserve help, which is understandable....Oddly enough the one liners seem to get more response then my rambling.
Trying to provide any information that could help to figure out my problem.
Edit: I just purchased the car and replaced the head, the old one had bent valves. Everything was done by the book, but this IACV issue is gettin the best of me!
