Leak in trunk!! And it's fall in WA!!!

    All,

I need help. I have a leak in my trunk but can't figure out the origin. The rubber seal surrounding the trunk is in very good condition. One of the tail lights looks like there is moisture inside the plastic housing, but I don't see any water coming into the trunk from this area. When I open the trunk, however, there is some serious condensation when looking up at the underside of the trunk door. I'm not sure where this water is coming from though... All seals surrounding this area look fine. Has anyone else had issues similar to this? Any ideas??

    Thanks!

Lower the back seat. Lay down on your back with your head in your trunk.
Have a friend pour water over the trunk and rear window. Where you see water coming through will be where the leak is.

Had this problem about 2 years ago. The trim around the rear window had broken seals and the passenger side taillight was not sealing. Took silicone to both and has not leaked yet.

at first i Replaced the Trunk Gasket and that didn't work
Clean out the sun roof drain ???? (my mechanic did that for free )

        Those didn't work

One day i decided to fix my tail light....bought new tail light gasket from majestichonda and installed it and it doesn't leak any more

I like the tail light idea, but why am I seeing the water all over the inside of the trunk ceiling? Could it be that water or cold air is coming in through the tail light and making its way to the trunk ceiling and building up condensation there? I suppose the difference in temp inside and outside the trunk could contribute to the condensation also.

I'll get in the trunk while someone pours water over that area too. Good idea.

Same exact fix for me... still need to fix the rear window trim though.

And I had water EVERYWHERE. On the trunk lid, floor, walls, everywhere. Man what a mess.

i had this probelm as well. under the rear window sealing rubber or whatever there are eight clips that are screwed down. apparently some idiots unscrewed the four on the right side and water was coming down from there. home depot has screws that will fit but the best thing is silicone.

Mine was the wheel well also. Very small hole and only noticable when the trunk is open (so the light shines through). I still need to fix this, not sure how yet.

Well, I found three visible leaks. One was a hole in the floor of the trunk. I think this was where a hole had been drilled for a ground wire. Another was the gasket of the driver side tail light. The third was the antenna opening. I cleaned and sealed all three. Now will wait for rain and take it from there.

I used a silicone based sealant sold at an ordinary parts store. Still have lots of condensation in my trunk ceiling and walls though... Not sure what else to do beside just replace the tail lights. I'm wondering if condensation just builds up from a difference in temp inside and outside the trunk.

Oh, dont you worry!! The rains will come!! as for the condensation, you can get rid of the moisture by just leaving the back seat down while you drive around and such.
