ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Clutch Noise

When pulling off from most uphill inclines, my CB lets out a groan as I let the clutch out in first gear. The sound never comes back in any gear, and clutch feel is unperturbed, completely normal, during the groaning. I'm sure its the clutch making the noise, as the noise occurs directly at the engagement point. My mechanic inspected the transmission, but no avail.
I recently moved to LA, and the traffic is just murdering my clutch. Does anyone have a similar noise problem? Any help is appreciated!

Are you running the original clutch (as far as you know?) or did you install an aftermarket clutch?

The groaning may be a failing throwout bearing. That is only a guess, since I've never experienced what you're hearing, and I can only go on your description.
If the throwout bearing is 20 years old, or a cheaply made aftermarket piece, failure is likely. I had a cheaply made aftermarket bearing fail on me after about 2.5 years... it resulted in a destroyed clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. (the brand was XTD... stay away, even though they're very affordable! Go with OEM Honda for the bearing, and Exedy for the clutch)

Odd, I myself make a groaning noise when I have to get moving too, once I'm up and going, it's cool. I just associated it with my age!

I don't think a couple aspirin will help his clutch, though.

My father replaced the clutch around 80k miles, and the car's run another 88k since. It was an OEM Honda part, to my knowledge. I'll get some diagrams and take a look at that throwout bearing when I have time. A worn-out piece won't have catastrophic effects like your aftermarket bearing, will it?
          Thanks, Mr. Deev!

Eventually, when it completely seizes, yes... it could destroy everything in there. The throwout bearing needs to be able to spin freely. When it can't, the friction produced will cause major damage.

Now, I can't say for sure that the throwout bearing is your problem... but that's my best guess. Unfortunately, the only way to check it is to take the transmission off... and if you're going to do that much work, it'd be smart just to change all the clutch components while you're there.
