ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Wheel bearing/Hub

    Hey Guys,

I'm doing a break job and took off the hub/wheel bearing assembly. When i rotate the bearing, I don't hear any noise, but there is play in the bearing when I tilt it up and down (side to side).

Is my wheel bearing bad? Should there be absolutely no play at all?

    Thanks,

I believe that if there is that amount of play it indicates considerable wear and you should install a new bearing. Normally they are kind of "tight" and, for example, won't spin freely under just finger pressure. But perhaps wait for others to respond.

I recently had my rear hub and bearing in hand and I don't recall that there was play at all in any direction, and it was smooth but did not spin "freely", in other words you could turn it smoothly but it stopped turning immediately if you tried to spin it and remove your hand.

I could be wrong but that's my take on it.

Replace it. I just did my front rotors and mine were tight, no play, and smooth moving.

          Thanks for the response guys.

I'm going to take the rotor/hub/wheel bearing assembly to the shop to replace everything (inc. rotor and bearing). I can't for the life of me get the hub cap off to take the rotor off!

rotor and hub comes off the spindle as one. there's four 6 or 12pt bolts on the back of the spindle. then you'll need to beat it out or use a slide hammer.

when you get it off, the four 14mm bolts that were facing you ont he hub is what holds the rotor and hub together.

The Haynes manual says you need to press the hub/bearing assembly onto the steering knuckle. Is this incorrect? I've got some Timken hub/bearings I need to put on, and since my CB's currently not drivable (rear-ended an Escape... took out some major front-end parts), I figure I may as well do it myself if it's just a bolt-on.

only the bearing needs to be pressed onto the hub.

correctamundo. walk it in with the bolts in a criss cross pattern though so you dont get it all cock-eyed.

Thanks, I thought I was going to have to pay a shop to press it on for me
