ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    400k on a re-build

so I'm trying to sell my civ and there's this kid who wanted to make a trade.
    1990 accord LX.
said it had some issues but I wasn't too worried about them.
until he brought up that it had 400,000 miles on it.
but he said it runs great and the engine was rebuilt.
I know barely anything about engines but I know 400k is ridiculous.

is it even worth it to check out the car with this much mileage, and are there other things I oughta look for if I do?

    vroom.

What condition is your car in and what has been done to it? He said he has a rebuilt motor. So it would be 400k on the body and then whatever he's put on the motor since the rebuild. I would think anyways lol.

well my car's only got 150k.
good engine, no problems, yada yada.
      it's just kinda ugly

I haven't seen his car but I guess it's not terrible.
and he didn't tell me too much about it.
      so...I'm stuck?

      vroom.

What all is wrong with your car as far as the outside to make it ugly? If his car has 400 on it and yours has 150 and you don't have any major mechanical or body work that needs to be done I would stick with what you have.

          civ = civic ? What year ?

If he is asking for an even trade, ask him why and see if he has receipts of the rebuild, if not I would keep your car.

Don't forget 400k means body/ chassis too. Check for rust and paint issues on the car and also CHECK the suspension (if nothing was replace, be sure to have extra cash on hand to change worn suspension components like shocks, bushing, and tie rods )

note: engine mounts could go out too and cause to be irritable and [possibly] unsafe vibrations.

besides what makes your car so ugly ?

If you car looks like shit and his car looks nice, trade him. Wait for motor to blow, then swap motor out with a low mileage motor and call it good. lol

i would think the motor would be good.. if it was rebuilt right..
im pretty sure he meant the chassis has 400k on it, but the engine was rebuilt.

what else was wrong with it?

if the rebuild was done right then the motor should be fine
if it wasnt recked then the chassis should be alright

just make sure yourself, if you see cracks somewhere where you dont think they should be (pretty much anywhere) its probably not worth it

hondas can take a beating and still be fine though

Rebuild doesn't fix everything.. That's still alot of wear and tear on your swingarms, gearbox, etc

Being your in WA, I would keep the car that has the best condition body. Once you have that solid foundation, it is worth building upon in my eyes. Otherwise you will deal with body degradation problems which are related to suspension as well and it can get VERY expensive.

You can always fix engine/tranny problems, as worst case you can swap in a better condition replacement. It's all worth it when you have a solid body, no matter how old the car.
