ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Coil/ignitor, or battery..? Just Died.

my 93EX (the free one) has been running around great for the last week. After, of course, putting the battery on the charger overnight until it showed 100% on the charger. Anything less, and it wouldn't start. Cranked just fine tho.

So, a week later, I take off to home depot and 3 blocks from my house it just died. Like I turned off the key. ANd now the check engine light is staying on again whe nyou turn the key on. I haven't pulled the code, but a 12 pack says it's the same code 15 as before. It's on the charger again, we'll see if it restarts when it's back up to 100%, as it did before.

I did buy an ignitor, but how the hell do I get all the crap outta the dizzy to put it in? The manual I downloaded is no help...

why would you buy an ignitor if you're having battery problem?

    are you not getting sparks?

Check your cables and grounds. I've had a brand new battery not start my car because my cables were corroded.

When it "acts up", no there are no sparks... Unless the battery is charged to 100% by the charger, it won't start.
I charged it for an hour, fired right up. Got me down to the beer barn then died again...

Problem with buying the battery theory is, it starts every other small car here just fine when it won't start the accord.

Yea that's where I'm heading next. Everything looks relatively clean that I can see, but it never hurts.
I guess I'll see about taking this ignitor back.

Keep the igniter. They go out, and at this age, yours will go sooner or later. Might as well just replace it now. Hold onto the old one just in case.

But yes, check your connections, and make sure they're tight. Check all grounds.
After the car dies, is the battery dead? The alternator could be shot.

No the battery is NOT dead... That's what so odd... It cranks like normal. The battery will start all the other cars I have after NOT starting the accord.
Only when the charger has seemingly overcharged the hell out of it will it keep it going. Like this time it ran fine for over a week. Starting up everyday just fine. Then wham.

I'm starting to think maybe a weak alternator, not keeping up. But the battery still powers everything just fine, lights, windows, starter, etc. Just no fire until I put the charger on it for a while again.

If the battery is strong and still not starting the car unless it is overcharged, then the alternator is unlikely. A car will run on the battery with a bad alternator, and crap out when the battery dies.

Dirty or loose battery and ground connections, coil, or igniter. Really. Those things are the MOST likely problems. Hands down.

Ok... I drive the car to the jobsite this morning, and back home after an hour or so, runs just fine since it was on the charger all day yesterday.
Sit here for another hour, while I tried to pull the wire ends out of the thermostat sensor plug as it has been broken off this whole time.
I go out and restart the car, it idles for about 3 minutes and dies. CEL now stays on and no restart, but cranks just fine. I grab the DVM and hook it to Batt+ and Neg to A/C mount on engine, I get ~12.5v, while cranking this drops down to ~11.8v. Nothing too strange here but it won't start. I put the charger on it for about 5 minutes, watching the DVM, as it passes ~13v, the CEL goes out, and immediately it restarts. Pull the charger, idle shows ~12.7v and slowly climbing. Rev to 1800 and it quickly shoots to ~13.7v.

I turn on all the lights, the a/c on high, the rear defrost, hold the brake, turn the flashers on, and run the windows up and down repeatedly... It takes about 2 minutes but all that slowly pulls idle V down to ~11.8. rev to 1800 again and it holds ~12.6 with all that load.

Everything seems to be fine... But WTF?? Something is up.
Next step I guess will be pulling the battery and alternator and have them load tested. I don't know where else to go from here.

double check that alternator ,seem like the battery is not getting help from it.

I put the new ignitor in it and so far it seems to be corrected. I'll give it a week or two before calling it solved.

I guess I'd like the battery to START my fucking car. Maybe you should go back a actually READ the fucking post instead of coming in like an asshole telling me shit that you know nothing about.
I haven't even tested the battery, other than the test in the car that I listed above, let alone tested it over and over.
The CEL doesn't stay on fuckhead, I said it comes on when the car dies. Then I also said it went out when the charger got the battery past a certain point, and then the car would start and run again.

Next time you feel like posting in my thread, just take the idea and stick it in your ass bro!!
