ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

ive always run cai's on my cars and never had a problem with water. My personal butt dyno feeling is the cold air(longer) is better on the bottom end. numbers may prove me wrong but i had one on my hyundai and on my dakota and there was a major (to me) difference especially with the big 318 in the truck.

I'd be running it on a stock ecu. Is there anything I could do to improve it.

there is really nothing you can do with the stock ECU to improve it. you may want to try an P12 from an Prelude

Any stock ECU will generally dump more fuel to accommodate for the added airflow. The only way to change this is to get an ECU that can be tuned (this is fairly involved...) and spend some time and money returning the air/fuel ratio to a better level.

But to answer your question, get a bypass valve if you're running a cai and that will help keep it from hydrolocking. If you know it's going to be pouring down, flood weather then just take the bottom tube off and run it as a short ram. As far as the piping goes, wether you pay 200 or 20 dollars for the intake they are both going to be a pipe. Buy the cheap one and put a quality filter on it and you'll be fine. Hope this helped.

now with my next post ill actually be useful. take the stock air box get a K&N drop in filter and cut the bottom out of the box, this way you get more air into the engine its cooler than short ram and you have better bottom end pick up than a CAI, and its a LOT cheaper than the other 2 alternatives.

have you cut out the bottom of the stock air filter box? it sounds like a better method

Ok I have a cai with bumper mounted cone filter ""AZ chepo and honestly my car accels faster with it but the mileage was changed but not really by much. As I am to understand short ram is all engine heated air which isnt that good for the motor. <Is this true? The reason I ask is because I havent located a bypass so on rainy days well u know what takes place. (pourin hood popped wet, passers by laughin thinkin f**kin street racer) but here in Bama the rain comes outta nowhere. Anyway on short ram it seems so sluggish why???

not 2 be a dick or nething but there is no point in putting on a short ram intake un less u r just looking 2 get a cool sound out of it.....your air filter from factory was inclosed thats so u do not suck in hot air...u can run a cold air intake( the kind that goes in the wheel well) and just get a splash guard 4 it that claps to the pipe.. but if u put a short ram intake u basicly have a hot air intake then cuz ur sucking in all the heat that the motor is giving off....I hope this helps u out. -cb7builder

A short ram intake will be fine. When the car is moving, the air temperature isn't all that warm.

You'd be fine with a cheap no-name short ram pipe, but I would upgrade the filter to AEM or K&N. The cheap filters don't work well, costing power, and eventually damaging your engine because they don't filter properly.

short ram is better for low end quick throttle response. cold air for high end.
