ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Oil pan gasket question

Hey all , i just wanted to know if there was really any difference between oil pan gasket when it come to replacing them ? obviously its probably better to go with OEM honda gear , but besides the OEM gasket what others perform just as good and dont leak ? i know of just a a few like the FEL-PRO that TAS Auto offers , and the local auto zone , pep-boys etc. but i would like some input on what other ppl are using and how happy you are with the result if youre noit using OEM thanks for the input

I am doing a complete rebuild, and i am to the point where my oil pan gasket is going on tomorrow along with intake manifold, before i broke it down, i had a gasket from advanced auto, and it worked great, but that is the only gasket on the car, and still will be that is not a Honda genuine part, other gaskets are to crucial it seems.

What i was wondering is if you need to put rtv sealant on both sides of the gasket or, just between the oil pan and gasket.

I've used non oem gaskets and they worked fine. As far as putting rtv on them i've heard you only need it in the corners. I did the same as I did on my valve cover gasket and put some where the gasket will sit to hold it in place and then rubbed some more on it. After everything was tightened just go back with a wet rag or something and wipe off the excess. No problems here so far.

If it doesnt work its a fairly easy fix to put one on even if its in the car. Just make sure you dont overtighten them because honda gaskets crack when you do. I have fixed tons of these do it yourselfer overtightened gaskets.

            My FelPro gasket works.
I'm considering using The Right Stuff by Permatex instead of a gasket next time though, as it is working fantastically well on my valve cover instead of a gasket, it's easy to clean off, and it conforms to whatever surface irregularities are there, and it costs like 1/10 the cost of a readymade gasket.

The issue with using it for the oil pan will be lining up the pan very carefully before letting it contact the gasket mating surface so you don't scooge The Right Stuff everywhere.

Thanks for the replies im kinda on a budget so however much extra cash i dont need to spend is money that i can put towards all the other things that need to be fixed on my new CB project.
