Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Automatic transmissions problems

    My moms got a 92 accord 182kms on it, seems to run ok, but a few issues.

    1) It is really difficult to move from Park to Drive, my moms is hurting her arm and does not want to drive the car anymore if this cant be fixed.

    2) sometimes when you shut off the car and start it back up again it has problems starting. When you finally get it to start (usually by waiting 10 minutes) the Drive light flashes and it skips 1-2-3 straight to 4th gear. So basically you only have 4th gear.

    Any ways to fix these problems? Excuse my ignorance, I have never dealt with an automatic trans before.

    problem 1, you need a new shifter cable

    problem 2 may be either your main relay, possibly your igniter

    the auto trans problem may just be because your shifter cable is junk BUT it may be a bad tcu

    cable can be bought for 20-30 and installed yourself
    main relay can be fixed for free with a soldering iron, igniter could be swapped with a junkyard one or you can buy one from ebay for 30, tcu's are pretty cheap used on here or ebay

      It's more than likely your transmission computer (TCU).

      The TCU is located under the glove compartment, behind the carpet, on the right side. The left one is your engine computer.

      Find a replacement and you should be fine. For the time being, you can place the key in the shift lock slot to allow the shifter to be moved to the neutral position. THen you can start the car and move it to Drive/Reverse or whichever gear. Normally a bad TCU will not allow the shifter to be moved from park.

      When my TCU was bad, I could manually shift and get either 1st and 3rd gears, or 2nd and 4th gears, depending on the temperature outside.

      The starting problem is more than likely one of the above stated.

      EDIT: I'm assuming your shifter is locked into place, and not simply difficult to move, unless something is broken.

        one thing I forgot to mention was that my mom said the lock system on the auto trans does not work. We never need to unlock it. I will ask her about the exact details tomorrow.
